We invited 230 people, and are ending up with 155. I wanted to have around 180, because we have a big room.
A ton of people aren't coming because flights are expensive (we sent the STD a year in advanced). Now granted I know some people can't afford the trip...
but then there are people who live close by, and have tons of excuses. A family reunion, meeting the boyfriends parents, an elective surgery the day before (they've had months to have it taken care of).
ugh sorry. I just need to vent. I am putting in so much effort in this wedding and people don't think its important to be there. :( :( it really shows who actually cares to make the effort.

I learned this same lesson at my engagement party. I was so concerned about who we invited and I didn't want to upset anyone and in the end only the people that REALLY mattered wound up coming. So, new leaf for me with the wedding....invite who you want and if they can't come...their loss and it will save you a buck in the end anyway!

I hate to say it but through planning a wedding, you really learn people's true colors... Not going to name names because who knows who might be lurking here but someone who really should have been at my wedding decided to plan a month long vacation to a place that she goes to every year... Meanwhile you had a save the date for a year and a half... It really irritated me cause I was like gee thanks, you knew about this and STILL planned your vacation... So yea, you're definitely going to learn a lot about the people around you but who cares... Whoever really loves you will be there and you just enjoy your day!

I totally agree on the 'true colors' comment! I don't expect everyone to be there... and some people from the start I knew wouldn't come...
but now I'm like okay, when you get married? Yeah I'm busy LOL.

Totally dealing with this right now and the RSVP's we are getting back. Some people who said no really shocked us and kinda hurt our feelings too.
We have the holiday weekend thing going against us but we still sent out STD's a year in advance b/c of that reason and people are still bailing.

I have that fear because I booked Memorial Day weekend, but the way I have to think is that the people who love me will be there- and those who aren't shouldn't talk to me for a while!

Yeah that is a big fear for me. I know many people probably won't make it to my engagement party, but that's ok. I just hope they care to come to the wedding.

My friend invited 245 and had about 160 RSVP yes and like 5 no shows. She was shocked that's about 33% that said no and it went below her guarenteed minimum. People are crazy.

Same thing happened to us. We invited 300 and 220 came and that included vendors and DH and I! We got engaged January 2009 (New Years Eve/Day - after the ball dropped). We sent out STD's around August 2009 for our September 2010 wedding. My dad's first cousin, who he is very close with and I grew up close with her daughter told me at my shower (June 2010) that they MIGHT be going away then for her birthday so she doesn't know if they can come. They ended up planning her vacation during our wedding and didn't come and didn't send a gift...and before anyone thinks due to work - her and her husband own their own business and go away whenever they wants.
People just don't know or forget about planning a wedding and what goes along with it. People's feelings get hurt but then they don't think about the money and planning and heartache that they put on us brides.
You really learn who your true friends are and I am SO sorry your are going through this!
