What's wrong with kids?

What's wrong with kids?

I am asking this question because I just never spent much time thinking about it, but lately I've been reading posts about brides who have very strong feelings against having children at their wedding receptions. What is the reason behind it? I don't have many children to worry about, but I am just wondering why some have such strong feelings. Any insight?

I think alot of people feel that a wedding should be a more adult affair. They don't want their cousins throwing tantrums, getting dirty, being loud, etc...

I want kids at my wedding because they are family and I want them all there. And I plan on having a more low-key fun weddings.

Some people just feel it should be for adults only. Everyone is different.

When I was 12 I went to a wedding at a hotel and me and my cousins rode the elevators up and down...

It's probably people just want it to be 'adults only' atmosphere..without kids running around screaming.

Also, if its a night time wedding people may be afraid that the adults will leave early b/c the kids are tired.

I know, I feel the same way! We are having kids at our wedding because they are family - I can't not invite my 3 nieces (who are my flower girls) and my cousin has 2 kids - so we will have about 8 kids, but I know some people are anti-kids at the wedding - but I am not going offend my family!

i can't speak for everyone but i think there are a few reasons people don't want kids at their wedding....

money - even if there are cheaper prices for kids, its still expensive to pay for a plate of chicken fingers or something....In our case if we allow kids there will be about 20 (bc we can't invite some and not others)...that $$$ adds up

also, for evening weddings esp, kids may get tired as it gets later and start getting whiney or misbehaving

I agree! Even though it's 1/2 price for kids...I dont need to spend $75 for the chicken fingers. And more importantly, I dont want kids ruling the dance floor and turning it into a circus. I'm only having a handful of kids...FH's two kids and my two cousins who will be 12 and 15 at the time...so old enough to behave.

These are my feelings...

1. Like she said above, people don't want to pay even half for a plate of chicken fingers that the kids might not even eat.

2. They could get loud and obnoxious

3. Sometimes kids that are TOO cute and outgoing may take the attention away from the bride.

4. Again like someone said above, parents might be inclined to leave early because of them.

5. Sometimes at parties dancing and the whole garter toss could get a little riskay (sp?) and they don't want the children to see that

6. might feel that they have to gear the music towards children to keep them entertained

7. Some might have too many children to possibly invite and it's easier to just say no children then to draw a line somewhere.

After all this is said... i am inviting children to my wedding. There will be about 10 under the age of 13. If their parents don't want to bring them then that's their decision.

I am running into the same problem. My FH has a lot of younger nieces and nephews about the age of 10 who are crazy! They are always running around and acting out of control. I have a niece and nephew who are in the wedding, but once CH is over they are going home with their other grandparents because they do not need to be there all night. They will only be 3 years old by the time the wedding gets here. I am the youngest in my family and I was not invited to the 'grown-up' weddings. My parents always understood.

my fh has a daughter and i have younger cousins they will obviuosly be there but as for other kids....last week i went to a wedding and as the best man was crying giving a speech to his brother, 4 kids starting running on dance floor screaming and u couldnt hear the speech...it was awful....plus on my side i have 20 cousins who have kids so if i had kids it would add an additional like 40 people.....

I'm having probably around ten kids at my wedding. I have my nieces who are in the bridal party and the rest are out-of-town family who have no one here to watch their kids so they have to be included. The youngest will be 4 (my niece who is very well-behaved) so at least I don't have to worry about crying babies.

This is exactly why. I'd have a coronary if this happened haha

I am having about 10 - 14 kids under 18 at my wedding. I actually love having kids around and sharing memories...its how I grew up and I feel it adds something to pictures and the video.

That being said...some ppl don't really want children to attend so their parents can really let loose and enjoy themselves... kinda get the night off. I am considering hiring a baby sitter for the night to sit with the kids at the kids only table to entertain and tend to them so my sisters can relax a bit.

Re: What's wrong with kids?

two of my little cousins are crazy and would tear apart and ruin my wedding. I love them, but their parents poor disiplining skills make it hard for me to have them there. Then the other kids suffer and can't come either. I cant ban two and not the other 5 on my side and the other 7 on Fh's side. Thats 14 children who won't even really remember the wedding, let alone make it up until 1am when my reception ends.

Also, when I told parents that i wasn't inviting kids their response was unanimusly 'Awesome, we need a night out'

So it works for everyone. I was all for having kids there until my cousin and his wife give birth to two of the most unruly, out of control boys ever

That is a wonderful idea and I am sure the parents of the children will absolutely appreciate it!

Re: What's wrong with kids?

I'm one of those people who has a strong opinion about having kids at your wedding. It's exactly as most of you responded..

1. It's an adult affair. With the exception of your own kids, other children such as your little cousins and children of your friends, it's to me just inappropriate for anyone to get offended if their kids are not invited. I come from a very large family and have about 20 first cousins, we were never invited to weddings when we were little, and our parents understood. Believe me, parents WANT a night off from their children.

2. You know how kids like to stick their fingers in cakes to lick the icing. That's my biggest fear!!! I do not need my wedding cake ruined on my big day.

3. I don't want them controlling the dance floor.

4. And to be honest I didn't even think of the money aspect that someone else mentioned. Even if it is half price for them, I'm already having a hard time cutting down my list of adults. I'm glad my FH and I decided right from the word GO that we would not have children at the wedding.

Sorry if I offended anyone.

Re: What's wrong with kids?

We are having children age 13 and up at our wedding. We picked that age bc thats how old his half sister is...also Shawn coached a girls soccer team and I helped for a few years and there are a couple of girls and parents that we want there with us. (ok well maybe like 3 or 4, not alot, plus one of the girls younger sister will be our flower girl)
My main concern though is the parents wont have as good of a time if their kids are there...I would like everyone to cut loose and enjoy themselves...

Well, I am not having children at my wedding for a lot of the reasons stated above. Let me share this story with you:

FH has a cousin who will bring her babies EVERYWHERE, even uninvited. Well, at an e party, (not ours), one of the groom's friends was completely s*itfaced, and picked up her 10 month old baby, and was quite literally , THROWING The baby around!!! Everyone was looking on in horror.

Moral of the story: Children & Alchol=

Both of these reasons is why we have decided no kids but our own that are in the wedding. I doubt the kids would even eat a whole place and i dont want to waiste the money. Also my wedding is at 8pm. I'm affraid the kids will get tired and the parents will have to leave before they are ready because the kids are falling asleep. I want my guests to have fun and when you have kids a night away is welcomed
