I recently got engaged last week (woo hoo!!) but have been secretly planning our wedding for months. The thing is, I cannot find a venue that I *love*!!
We are having a small-ish wedding, around110-120 people. I would take either the Island or NYC. I dont want a ballroom venue, or something that evokes the feeling of a country club. Those events are lovely, just not our style. Rather, I would like something loungy, intimate, and sexy. I feel like I have exhausted all of my options and I am being too picky.
Oh, and did I mention budget? Ideally I would like to keep it @ 140pp (w/tax and tip) but could go up to 160pp. Saturday night a must (parents insist).
Ladies, please help. I am about 12 hours away from just throwing in the towel and booking two tickets to Vegas!

Thanks! I need to look at the Metropolitan- I have heard mixed reviews, though.
Some say it's fantastic, others say it is run down. Are they doing renovations soon?

i'm not sure about renovations but when i went, we were shown the club house which is on a sub level which we weren't crazy about. our wedding was too small to use the main building but i think the main building might have the feel that you're going for.

There's the outside part of Chateau Briand so Im not sure if you would want the whole party outside but you can definately have your CH and its 100% loungy.
I would say though that you will find many more placed that are edgier in the city. There's this place called Arena which looks awesome but I have no clue how much.
ok. this was totally my thoughts before i booked (we actually did go with a standard catering hall..because we felt we were getting so much for our $$ and FH REALLLLY LIKED the place)...but other places to look at --
riviera in massapequa old field club metropolitan (they are doing renovations!) sans souci (REALLY CHARMING AND BEAUTIFUL!) chateau briand (i didnt want to check this place out at first because i thought it would be like the rest...but its worth the visit...the outside is gorgeous and the cocktail hour room is very art deco) swan club

Congrats and I'd suggest Metropolitan as well. The food is supposed to be very good and it has more of that lounge vibe. You can take a look and find out about renovations etc.

I would suggest the Chateau Briand. That is where I am getting married and you are basically describing everything I wanted in a hall too.
I dont have a specific suggestion, but why not look at really cool longes in NYC or LIC?
That way you can almost do a cocktail party as a reception, no sit down dinner, just amazing passed horsD's all night.

I think you might like Tribeca Rooftop.
Someone else suggested my RH (old field club) but its got more of a hamptons/old money/blue blood social club feel than a sexy lounge feel IMO.

WESTBURY MANOR all the way. We choose that place becasue we didnt want anything ballroom like also. It just wasnt our style. We wanted something romantic, regal and sexy also. We found all of that in the manor. They can accomodate your style and wedding size

there's a place called Espace in the city way west on 42nd street. It's a gorgeous space.
