I went to the Halmark Store to look for Christmas cards.. Do you believe that on the whole wall of Christmas cards, not ONE of them said Merry Christmas? It was either 'Seasons Greetings', 'Happy Holidays' or 'Best Wishes for the Holiday Season.'
Whats the deal with calling a Christmas Tree a 'Hoiday Tree'
Im the last person that would start a thread about this, but it kind of bothered me. It seems that people are so wrapped up in the whole idea of the 'Holiday Season' that with all the shopping & the craziness, people are loosing the real meaning of what Christmas is all about, and that to me is truly upsetting.
Does anyone else notice this, or is this just me???

I have noticed a lot of this lately & frankly it makes me so mad! It seems in this world we live in today, everything needs to be 'politically' correct! When I heard the issue about the 'holiday tree' I got so mad....Call it was it is, it is a Christmas tree, not a holiday tree!!! There are things in this world that are just cut & dry!!
Just bc we say 'christmas' we are not taking away from others that don't celebrate the same holiday.
In the corporate world, you will NEVER see the words Merry Christmas, you MUST use, Holiday, or Season's Greetings!!

I feel that people lost what Xmas was about WAY before the PC terminology - I encounter such rudeness when I shop - plus pushing and just general humbugness....

Dont we have the Freedom of speech?? If I worked in retail. I'd LOVE to see them fire me because I said Merry Christmas to a customer.

i'm someone that doesn't celebrate xmas. i don't get offended if someone say merry christmas or would ask if i finished my xmas shopping. but i would get offend if someone wrong merry xmas in a holiday card if they know i don't celebrate the holiday. i love seeing xmas trees and xmas lights

I just got that same thing in an e-mail. I'm glad someone posted that before I did! How true is this though? I love the holiday season because for the most part it brings out the best in all of us, but lately it just seems to be causing nothing but animosity and pitting one against the other. I think it's a shame. No matter what your beliefs when some says Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas or Happy Chanukah, I don't think it's a reason to get offended. At least someone took time to acknowledge you and wish you a pleasantry. How many other times throughout the year do people do this? Can we not always look behind people's words and just take them for what they are, kind words and nothing more. People aren't always being facetious and don't mean to offend. For once let's not use Religion as a reason to fight and argue, isn't it time to move past this?

Thank you for posting this...I CANNOT stand all of this 'Politically Correct' BS...I think it really started to bother me when the whole issue of people saying that the Rockefellar CHRISTMAS Tree should be called a 'Holiday' tree... Get the heck out of here its exactly that a CHRISTMAS tree...its not meant to symbolize anything but Christmas...otherwise it would have been called a 'Holiday' tree LONG ago...please I could go on and on with all of this PC Holiday business...

Yea, but thats because we are so used to it. It kind of just rolls of my shoulders by now. This year its not so bad, but when hannukah is a week or two before christmas, and everyone is saying Merry Christmas or asking me if I did my christmas shopping, its a bit annoying, considering my holiday already ended. I don't really mind that much, I just try to get into the spirit of the season, but I don't think that retail workers should be saying merry christmas to everyone. Happy Holidays is definitely more appropriate, because it includes everyone.

Umm Chanukah and Kwanzaa do not have lighted trees as part of their holiday celebrations, so why should it be called a Holiday Tree????
Although I do tease my FH about getting him a Chanukah Bush.
Everyone has to get so PC and really it's the religious zealots of every religion that are offended. Your average Joe Schmoe could care less.

it is really annoying. especially when you cant even find a chrismas card in a store! i mean it is your right to buy what card YOU want, not one that someone has decided is PC.
doesnt the pledge of alligance still have the God word in it? so what is the deal with not being allowed to say christmas?
in other countries, one in particular that is similar to the US, Australia. in the school systems there they teach the children about the different holidays. there is none of this 'you cannot say christmas' garbage.

one year at a school I consulted in - a boy with high functioning autism asked me how to spell Christmas in a speech session - I told him how - he asked why there was a T in the word - you can't hear it. I said because it has the word 'Christ' in it because it celebrates when he was born (mind you I thought nothing of this, and I'm Jewish) the speech teacher flipped out on me and told me she could lose her job if the boy tells someone what happened at her session!!!
I felt bad, but I told her - tell them to blame the Jewish consultant!

I agree, it is more appropriate, but seriously. You cant please everyone. What about the people that dont celebrate anything at all, and someone tells them 'Happy Holidays' ?
Whatever Its a greeting. Its better than not saying anything at all. To call a Christmas tree a holiday tree IMHO is disrespectful to me & my religion. I would never EVER call a Menorah a candlestick because of the symbolism it has to the jewish religion, and I would never disrespect anyone of that faith.
Sorry about the vent. This whole topic really pisses me off.
