FH always told me after dealing with me dragging him in and out of jewelry stores to look at e-rings that I would never know when and it would be a surprise...to which I laughed hysterically at him b/c I always know when something is going on. Before starting, let me start by saying FH does not do center of attention at ALL!!! HE hates it. We made plans to go out New Years Eve with friends.......I didnt feel good, his cousins e-party was that night, my friend had a video camera (she doesnt own one) and everyone kept asking me when we were going to get engaged. We met our friends out at a bar (real romantic) to hear our friends band play...no biggie right. Well when the countdown for the ball drop in NYC started he was standing behind me holding my hand, he started pulling on my hand.....now he knew how excited I was for the New Year, so in a flash I turned around, stomped my foot and screamed 'WHAT' he was down on one knew behind me.........and thats that. I said yes to turn around to the whole bar looking at us and applauding! We had a kagillion people thru the rest of the night come up and congratulate us! Still to this day I cannot believe I didnt know!!!!

HOW IT HAPPENED
I went to get my nails done at my Aunt's salon. Mike came with me since we were going out for dinner right afterwards. After the appointment, we were sitting in the car and he handed me an oversized card (asking if my nails were dry enough first). In the card - he spoke of everything we have been through and at the end, there was a red ribbon attached to the card. Next to it - he wrote - 'Anything with a red ribbon on it belongs to you tonight'. So silly me asked if I should be looking for something. He told me that there was something in the car for me...but I had to find it. So I went for the glove compartment - but it was locked. So he told me to get out my set of keys to open it. By the time I got the keys out - my hands were shaking so I had to have him help me. Inside the glove compartment was a white box wrapped with a red ribbon. Mike helped to open the box and inside was a gorgeous wooden jewelry box. He opened the inside box for me and said 'very simply...will you marry me?' Of course I said YES!! After showing the girls in the salon my new ring, we went back to his house. To my surprise, my entire family and our two best friends were there waiting for us to celebrate our engagement....

After a nice dinner at a restaurant in Hoboken overlooking the city we stopped at the bar for some drinks to watch the subway series then head outside and FH said we should take a walk on the pier. Next thing I know he gets down on one knee and proposes to me. B4 I can answer fireworks go off across the water (this part wasn't planned). I cried and said YES! :) I wanted to call everyone, but he said we should go get a drink to celebrate then we'll call. We walked into a restaurant/bar and both our families were waiting inside for us. Loved it!!
I was living in Hoboken at the time and it was only a few days b4 I was going to move in with him. He totally surprised me b/c I thought he was going to wait till we were living together for a while..

My engagement was absolutely perfect! I am so lucky! We were vacationing in Paradise Island, Bahamas. Saturday 3/25/06 we took a ferry to a private island to do a dolphin swim. They were just amazing - we got to swim with the actual 'Flipper' - he is 39 years old! After about 1/2 hour of playing with the dolphins, the trainers told us how they love to give presents to everyone and the dolphins started picking up rocks from the bottom and giving them to each person, then the trainers gave a football for them to give us as 'gifts'. All of a sudden, Flipper swam over to me with a little red container in his mouth. (Well actually he tried to give it to Steve, and Steve told me to take it - lol) When I took the container out of his mouth, I was told to open it - we can all guess what was inside! It was just perfect! I couldn't have asked for a better day! Steve pulled off the most amazing and perfect engagment and the ring is absolutely gorgeous!

FH proposed while out on the beach in Montauk, beside the light house. We had spent the morning car shopping for me & I was going on and on about cars, etc. He totally caught me off guard! We were walking and all of a sudden he turns around & starts in on this whole 'i love you speech.' I thought he had gone crazy & then realized what was happening. He got down on one knee & pulled the ring out of his pocket! Of course I said yes, and we got a round of applause from everyone else on the beach that day! It was so sweet and perfect

We were in Illinois visiting fh family. One night fh, his brother, his wife and I all went to dinner. After dinner we all decided to walk down to the lake. Since his sister in law was 8 months pregnant, she had to use the bathroom (again) so his brother and her walked back up to the bathroom. John and I walked along the lake. Then climbed up these rocks over looking the lake at sunset. Just talking about us and how much we love each other. John said he couldn't imagine life with out me. He then pulled away from me got down on one knee and said 'Sarah, I want you to be my wife, will you marry me?' Shocked, overwelmed with happiness...I cryingly said 'YES!' I was shaking! I could not have planned it better myself! It really was so perfect!
We got engaged 7/21/05-John said to me after putting the ring on 'Today is July 21 (Thursday) and 2 years from today will be a Saturday and I think that should be out wedding date' I was so impressed he planned so far ahead-we talked about a 2 year engagement anyway!

I had an inkling he had already bought the ring...and was kinda expecting it to happen that weekend, at a Yankees game probably. Well...I come home from work and the gym and I'm making stir fry in the kitchen on a random Wednesday night. FH comes in and says he has a gift for me (in a big envelope)...I had a feeling it was the Steelers jersey he wanted to get me for a while. Well, I was right. I thanked him and was about to put it on and he said, 'but wait, look at it- it's a special edition jersey!' I saw that a smaller patch was taped on top of the original Steelers patch of 3 diamonds on the jersey...and underneath it was my ring!! It was the cutest and most surprising thing! I still laugh about it when I think about it!! It's totally us!

We were in Aruba on vacation in April. Alll during that week I had seen weddings on the beach, he kept saying, 'One day it will happen.' A part of me thought if he was going to propose it would have been at our favorite restaurant in Aruba. We went there for dinner and he did not propose. So I was like whatever, it will happen when it happens. So mid week we had went Snuba diving. I got a bloody nose and had a headache when we went back to the hotel. I took a nap and got showered. It was the first night we did not have reservations for dinner. He said, 'I thought we could take a walk on the beach at sunset.' (I had told him I wanted to do that since we were there). So we started to walk and saw several weddings on the way. He took me to a remote part. He kept fidgeting and I thought it was because the new pants we bought him. Anyway, he started rambling. He's like I have a question for you..... He said, 'Whose you big daddy?' (A name I call him. I am Big mamma). I said, 'You are?' He's like I have another question for you? 'He said, 'Your my best friend and I'm finally ready to do this now, will you marry me?' (He was on his knee). I did what any girl would do...I said 'You are an F'ukin a$$hole.' I was so nervous and caught off guard. I think he was caught off guard with my reply. . Of course I calmed down, cried and said yes.

A man's perspective:
we had celebrated our 3 year anniversary. I had been thinking about it for a while, but was waiting for some kind of sign from her as she seemed, for a while, not really ready to take that step and content to be in a relationship. She said something to me, off handedly, that made me think it was time.
I had a date picked to do it, but then she scheduled shabbas lunch with some friends, so I plotted for another day.
The plan was to take her apple picking where we went the year prior, and propose right there. But now, with the day pushed back, I could really plan it out. Got a great room in a bed and breakfast in warwick, ny, set up with flowers, chocolates, and wine; got a reservation at a delicious and romantic restaurant (with the Culinary Institute of America nearby, there are a ton of excellent restaurants); packed her a bag (although I am a guy, kinda screwed up the whole semi formal attire with matching shoes thing). I do spoken word and performance poetry in new york city, and I wrote a new poem for the occasion.
We spent the first day plus of sukkot with friends in New Jersey, then drove up to the apple orchard. She knew we were going apple picking, but not that I was going to propose, so I had the perfect cover. When we got to her favorite type of apples, I asked her if they were her favorites. Then, I told her I wanted to read her this poem I'd been working on (and even that's not so unusual because I read FW my stuff alot). I read it to her, and started to kneel, but she tackled me and said yes before I could ask. Then I whisked her away to the B&B, we went out to dinner, I snuck my computer in the car so we could dance to swing tunes all night, it was awesome. I think I did alright.

wellll....being that I know the jeweler, i know diamonds, i do the insurance, and i am a control freak, i knew about EVERYTHING. I even did the negotiating on my diamond. The next day, we took it to get insured in the morning, he asked my parents that afternoon, and that evening, he held it in my face and said, 'Uhh, you want this now?'
I don't want to talk about it.
eta: I mean, after more than 5 years, don't you think he could've planned SOMETHING?!?!?!?

When FH asked me, he had made plans to take me to Eisenhower park to listen to german music I am not german, he is. I knew something was wrong, he kept squeezing my hand and kept looking at me funny. I kept thinging what is wrong with him. We wer sitting on blanket drinking wine, eatinf cheese and crackers. He almost started hyperveltalating when he says ow hell, took my hand and asked me what I was doing for the rest of my life, I thought what is wrong with him. Till he put the ring on my finger. For about 10 minutes I thought he was joking. We were both against marraige and never spoke about getting married ever. We were together almost 5 years when he asked. He had spoke with my dad earlier that day and asked him first.

We went to NYC for my birthday and I wanted Italian. FH was insisting on Hibachi for some odd reason. It starts too POUR. We can't find a place to eat for like 10 blocks. I call the operator and we get the name of a hibachi place on 3rd so we go take a cab and eat. Turns out the Hibachi isn't like big table, show hibachi but behind a counter. FH is bummed and we order sushi. After we eat its still DOWNPOURING. Like i think we should have rented a kayak and paddled downtown.
So FH wants to go to South Street Seaport but I am soo tired It is like 2am and I'm sopping wet with drenched socks and uggs. I was pissed I jsut wanted to go home.
So we take the train home and I pass the hell out on the train. We get the our station and get off. Now FH has a tendancy to walk away from me while I'm not paying attention or hide and scare me. He thinks its funny I don't. So I'm walking in the rain all tired and cranky and I notice FH is missing.
I'm like Cmon do we need to do this now seriously. So I look in every freakin vesitblue on the platform or him. I find him on one knee with a ring. Suddenly I'm not mad anymore and I just stare at him...for like 5 minutes. I think he thought I was going to say no or pass out. Finally I just whispered yes and that was it! We danced the in rain and I was a happy camper.

FH always told me he would never propose on a Holiday or around a holiday. So last Christmas we're home opening our gifts and hes like Oh wait, I have to give you your stocking. So he gives me my stocking and there is a little box in there. Seriously I didnt even think it was a ring because its Christmas Day. Im thinking....diamond earrings. So I unwrap the box, open it and BAM its an engagement ring. I quickly closed the box and thought it was a cruel joke. So he asked if I knew what it was...Im like I think so, BUT its Christmas....you always said you werent going to do it on a Holiday..... So thats our engagement story. He was originally going to put the e-ring around the dog but he got the dog the Monday after Christmas and he couldnt wait

Short Version: We were in Vegas at a trade show for a few days & he told me we would then go to Arizona to see his Dad for a week. We get to the airport & it turns out we are going to Hawaii! I was just happy with that. Of course our plane breaks down & we miss our connection..he is upset!! Very unlike him. We get to Hawaii by the next morning...do some shopping, relax at the pool...have dinner at sunset on the beach..and he whips out the box and states, NOT asks' So let's get married, what do you say?'..i am too busy ripping the ring out of the box to see if it's the setting i liked shopping with my friend..and it is! So again he is like 'uh..so?' and as a joke i look and say 'hmmmm?'....then I relpy of course!!! Had a great meal, strolled on the beach looking at stars..it was perfect...he did good considering it took him 4 1/2 years to ask! And he had asked my Dad for his blessing New Years Day, before we left...everyone knew it was coming. The loooong version is on our LIW website if you want to read a novel!
