He's got 4 neices & nephews. One will be 9 at the time of the wedding. The others 3, 2 and 1. I said no kids. Which if I'm saying that, then I'm excluding my own cousin (which she'll be 11), but I always said no kids. He's also got cousins who 2 of them will be 18 at the time of the wedding, and one will be 15/16.
NONE of the kids are in our BP. We are not doing a FG & RB.
I only have 1 child on my side, and I said I'd say no to her to have the adult reception I always wanted.
He can't decide.
But what's your look on it?
((The FH will be reading this! LOL his first REAL post he'll be reading! haha))

Re: What's your opinion ...
i dont think all of that judgement is necessary - i understand why girls dont want kids there for monetary reasons and they can be disruptive
but my relationship with the kids in my family makes me willing to look past that and invite them bc of my personal feelings
i mean, FH's niece ruined all of our pics from our engagement party - she jumped into all of our shots together and made faces.. . . and i was soooo upset . . . but if i want MY family there of course i have to include HIS family.
and i do understand when some couples choose NOT to bring their children ( i know FH's aunt and uncle may do this) so they can enjoy themselves. . .
this is a thread about opinions not judgements on those opinions. i dont think its fair to attack anyone.

some of you girls are so lucky to have family that supports your decision..i think i'd get my *ss handed to me if i said no kids...even though FH and i are paying for it...
no i know i will have it handed to me when everyone gets the invites and notices their children arent invited--- i know my grandmother will comment to my mom or me and i really dont care- FH and I are paying for it and they are not so they dont get an opinion- and i know i will have my dads side mad at me and more my mom (which i feel bad about) cause my grandmother blames my mom for every wrong family function i hate it....but my mom is prepared to just say it is Catie and Chris' wedding and they decided on what they wanted and that it is our say in the end and if they dont like it then they dont need to come and celebrate
that's sweet that your mom is strong enough to stand up for your decision. i'm not sure if we'll get yelled at outright..but i know we'll definitely get guilt tripped like crazy..sigh..and i don't want to live with that for the rest of my life...our families hold grudges like no other
edit: i just want to say that it's not ALL the kids i wouldn't want invited to our wedding..just the bratty ones that fight with each other and kick and punch each other while they're running around on the dance floor (this HAS happened before). i would hate for people to trip over the kids because they don't see them wrestling on the floor...or for one of the kids to get hurt because they don't realize that what they're doing could seriously injure the other person. and their parents hardly do anything to stop it. they yell for a little bit and then just give up and let them go wild. and i can't say anything because it's 'not my place'...sigh...i'm just crossing my fingers that no one gets hurt...

God forbid some of you have children of your own someday and are forced to make a decision about them. Maybe you were just not thinking but some of you are talking about children as if they are all terrible and devils.
Kids are kids. If you don't want them at your wedding, FINE but there is no need for name calling or lumping them into a negative category. Many of us not only love children but we work with them daily. You were a kid once, don't YOU remember what it felt like to be left out? They are HUMAN BEINGS!!!
What is that matter with some of you? Get over yourself. It is not just YOUR day. There are going to be a hell of a lot of other people there and last time I checked a wedding is about the marriage of TWO people - not just one and the coming together of TWO FAMILIES!!!!!!
***ETA: Sorry I don't mean to attack. I just feel bad for the kids. Some of your posts about them were so negative. I DO UNDERSTAND why you don't want them there. I just don't think it's fair, that's all.
whoa, just a tad harsh. everyone's entitled to their own opinions

I agree thats kinda harsh.....
people spend a lot of money and time on planning their weddings and if they choose to not invite kids to their weddings then thats their own choice. Dont forget a lot of you girls are paying close to if not more than $100 a plate......if you have 10 kids at the wedding (and they dont offer a kids meal) thats $1000.
And I dont think anyone meant to talk bad about kids.........but maybe their parents....some kids dont know how to behave at formal functions like a wedding because their parents let thme run around and dont watch them.
Well thats just my opinion. I am having I am having 5 kids at our wedding under the age of 18, but they are all in the bridal party.

It's ok! It's hard for all of us (or maybe just me) to not take things personally...and over the internet it's tough to get the sense for someone's true emotions because all we have are text and emote-icons.

Re: What's your opinion ...
i agree that a late-night affair that includes alcohol probably isnt the best place for a child. i think that if there is a huge amount of children in the family there should be a cut off or age limit. This avoids the time-outs, fighting, screaming, diaper changing, uh-oh johnny tripped broke glass and is bleeding and has to go to the ER for stitiches, and child entertainment problem and let the adults enjoy themselves. my family has very few children, so i have the luxury of leaving it up to the parents if they want them to go. i dont think there is a wrong or right answer because there are so many factors and personal preferences for this decision. no matter what you do, someone is going to complain.

No what we said was the kids would be there up until AFTER CH ....
I want EVERYONE to see us turn into US. But the reception is not a place for the kids. Esp with my family, friends and his family. He even agreed after CH kids are to be leaving.

we don't have a ton of kids anymore, maybe 10 altogether, but they are invited. It wouldn't be a family event without them.

We are having a lot of out of town family come to our wedding and some have kids. So we are def having kids at the wedding. I think it wuld be rude to not include them as they are family and will be traveling. Also, FH has 2 young nephews who are in the wedding and my little cousin is the FG. If these kids are important family members who you spend a lot of time with- consider inviting them. But if it is really not going to be a kid friendly party- maybe not invite them. But remember- kids make for the cutest pictures!!

My only issue with children there are
my max is 120pp.
With having kids there, we're leaving out adults who I personally rather have there because they would be able to enjoy and remember it.
The FH now sees where I was coming from now that he read what you all wrote.
if you have a limit and most people are local and can get a babysitter- then dont invite them.

I don't think it is appropriate to have children at an adult affair like a wedding. They are expected to be quiet and not touch anything and stay up later than they usually do so all in all, not a great place for kids. Plus, why should we, the bride and groom, pay for a babysitter at the wedding? Isn't that the parent's responsibility?
i agree completely....why should i have to pay to babysit your kids--if you were going to a friends wedding (not family) you wouldnt have them pay to watch your kids....so get a babysitter yourself- sorry it sounds mean but unless you are an OOT and have alot of kids and i didnt invite them i am not going to buy you a babysitter
and i know if i had nieces and nephews i WOULD invite them but i only have cousins who prob dont even know my name cause i never see them and they are annoying little kids and my dads side of the family resents my dad and our family cause we moved out of the town where they all live and my dad makes alot more $$ then his brothers and sisters---um HELLO we moved 15 mins away invite us to some family functions and maybe you will be invited to mine!!! i have a 7 yr old brother and he is annoying at times but my cousins are rude and annoying and my aunt and uncle never yell at them or punish them they think its cute when my cousin spits in peoples faces and she is 9 yrs old
so no little kids at the wedding!!!!

we decided no kids...and no under under the age of 18 (it might be 21 though) with the exception of the FG and RB.
if we had said yes to one kid, we'd have to say yes to all and both our families are huge and have a million little kids right now (about 50) and at 1/2 price per plate...its not worth it.
if u have a small # im sure itll be fine...u can even get someone to babysit or maybe see if the RH has a room for them to play in and set up activities there and get someone u know to stay with them.
irene! 50 kids!! That would be soooo many! hahahaha. And i wouldnt want you to get stuck babysitting them at ur own wedding!

Re: What's your opinion ...
we're cutting it off at frist cousins.. i think FHs youngest will be 9 at the wedding.. they will be invited i have 20 SECOND cousins (cousins kids) and they will NOT be invited since there are so many and its full price like 95 a head.. no way am i going to do that! and if they say but theres kids here i can justify it by saying they are first cousins...also when i was 13 i was NOT invited to my FIRST cousins weddings cuz they said i was too young. so i have no guilt!

not to be mean...but i work with children and special ed children as well...and I LOVE CHILDREN and I cant wait to have my own some day...
but I just dont want them at my wedding- i dont feel they need to be there and granted all kids are not devils or demons or whatever i have a 7 yr old brother and i love him to death and he can be annoying but an angel as well...
but my cousins are rude and annoying and i dont want them at my wedding- if i had nieces and nephews like i mentioned i would invite them of course...
and also yes it is about being with family and being with the one you love and celebrating your love but when you are paying $$$$ and alot of it to make this day special for you I am sorry I am not having little children (ie- my rude cousins) bring my day down and also spend the money on them and they dont even eat
and also when i have children unless it is my brothers and sisters wedding i dont care if you invite my children or not...i would rather them not be there since i want to enjoy myself and not worry about babysittig them and trying to enjoy them at the same time
Dont mean to be rude but just defending other people who ahve the same opinion as I do.

Re: What's your opinion ...
Kids or no kids is definitely a tough decision to make. FH and I decided to have kids at our wedding, but there won't be any really small children (except for my nephew who is the RB).
I know a lot of people decide to have no kids, and I totally understand why. I also understand why other people decide to have kids.
It's really up to you and your FH. Good luck deciding!

Re: What's your opinion ...
Kids or no kids is a decision FH & I haven't discussed. I think I'm leaning towards no children only because it's going to be an evening wedding. I also think it's a little easier for me to say that because I don't have any nieces or nephews. If I or FH did then our decison would probably different.
