When did everyone start dress shopping?

When did everyone start looking for their dresses? We'll be getting married in October 2008 and was wondering if I could wait until next summer before starting to look (so about a year before the wedding)?

I ordered my dress last May for my Feb 06 wedding and lied by two weeks in case something happened.

i got engaged june 05 (almost one year ago-- it will be one year this Friday) and I got my dress BEFORE I got engaged!!! LOL-- he had asked me to marry him without the ring on new year's eve of 05--so about six months before the actual ring came along (he had to save for it b/c he didn't want to charge any of it or have a loan)... so knowing we were getting married around new year's time I went shopping in March of 05-- THINKING OF COURSE i was just 'looking' and i found the dress of my dreams, of course!! LOL so I ordered it and it JUST came in last month-- imagine if i hadn't gone ahead of time, yikes! but I still had time either way b/c i'm an 07er!

So it's never too early-- if you love it, then it shouldn't matter. they still have the SAME dress on the rack as they did then so I would have found it whether i waited or not

I got engaged this last February for a wedding this coming August (7 months to plan!). I started looking in January and ordered it end of January (before behind officially engaged!). It took 12 weeks or so to get it as stated by my bridal shop.
