Re: when do I ...

I think 6-7 months is good. I did it at the end of my 5th month, just to get it out of the way, since we're busy packing and stuff. But, you can always start it online and keep adding.
Babies R Us has a good online registry and I think the prices are a little less than Buy buy baby (online registy stinks but in-store customer service is better). But, I registered at both, b/c my sister insisted for the convenience of my shower guests.

Ohhh I can register on-line? Do I have to do it at the store first or can I start on-line and then go into the store?

You can start one online. I did that, but ended up chaning some stuff after seeing it in the store. I guess you need to lift an infant carrier, push a stroller around, and see certain things before you decide. But, a lot of my online choices were also based on the reviews on BRU.

I registered at 5months. Always go early. You will probably change your mind on a few things a million times and you never know when your shower is going to be

I registered around 6 months, and I changed things often b/c I would hear so many differing opinions about certain things that are 'essential' or 'non-essential' for a baby. So, having the option for editing a registry online is good, that's why I used Babies R Us. Plus, the store has a great return policy and their selection of baby merchandise is usually the widest. JMO and experience.

We just registered at BRU Friday (28w1d)! Good thing, cuz my shower invites went out yesterday (a little bird told me that) I wanted to be in our 3rd tri before registering.

I've already added and deleted a few things since then! I actually need to add more or I'll get stuff I don't want/need!!

I just set up a registry online I still want to go into the store and check things out. I work in a daycare so I do have a lot of inside info I go from one kind of registering to another! What fun

Stacey - LOL re: going from one registry (wedding) to another (baby)...

I found registering for the baby to be 1,000 times more stressful than wedding stuff b/c when you're picking china patterns, you don't need to consider if the product is the safest on the market, the most user-friendly or able to withstand the abuse of a baby/toddler. I remember being excited to register - and then DH and I get to the store and we were completely lost and overwhelmed. I am so thankful that part of preparing for the baby is LONG GONE!

I know I feel a lot more pressure with this registry

Re: when do I ...

I remember also being overwhelmed and confused in the baby superstores...but I promise all of you that you will become experts very soon. I will give my usual advice - keep the boxes until you've actually used the different products with the baby. You can always bring something back but it's so much easier if you have the box. On the whole, I have found baby stores to have to most accomodating customer service I've ever encountered. Read reviews on Amazon or epinions to get other perspectives on some items you are considering. It helps b/c sometimes there are things that you could not anticipate about a product and those reviews are really helpful.

Good luck everyone

Liz - I totally agree with you on the Amazon/BRU reviews - with one exception...sometimes, you have to consider that people are truly morons if they cannot figure out how to assemble or care for some of these items!

And, you are soooo right about keeping the boxes! Good tip, Mommy!

Claud-LOL!! I hear you! Take em with a grain of salt but worth reading, especially helpful if you see a common problem in a few posts.
