When do we order a ketubah?

FH and I saw a ketubah we like. When should we order it? Any suggestions for stores? Once we buy it, where should we store it until the wedding? Any other tips?

Here's a pic, what do you think of it?

TIA!!

Re: When do we order a ketubah?

Hey Rachel!
Very nice!!! We're going to order ours in about 2-3 months - I'm trying to put it off for as long as possible because I'm not quite sure how or where to store it! Just be sure to check with your Rabbi before you order it. My Rabbi was very specific about the wording on the ketubah(conservative, or conservative with the lieberman clause). Sorry I couldn't be of more help! Oh, and for stores, there are a few Judaica stores in Manhattan...

And omg, I was at my parents apt the other day, and I found pictures from our very first formal - OMG!! we look like babies!

i would wait until you've chosen an officient and determined the ceremony type. i think it has to do with the wording on the ketubah. at least thats why i am waiting. once we finalize that i think i will be more comfortable with choosing exactly what it is supposed to say. HTH!

Re: When do we order a ketubah?

i am a Cantor, so if you need help, please dont hesitate to FM.

we got married last may and ordered our ketubah in february.

when to order depends where you order it from and if you are having the artist personalize it vs. having your rabbi or cantor write in your personal info for you.

before you order, make sure to have your text ok'd by your officiant.
he/she will also help you fill in the personal info on the form if you want the artist to calligraphy it in for you.

Re: When do we order a ketubah?

Thanks girls!

We booked our Rabbi; she's actually a friend of FH's parents. (She and her husband met my FILs on their honeymoon, how cute is that??) We're Reform. I just sent her the Hebrew w/the English translation.

Would we order yalmukes around the same time?
