When do you hear the heartbeat?

When do you hear the heartbeat?

At how many weeks are you typically able to hear the baby's heartbeat? And is that when you know for sure that the pregnancy is 'real' (like not a chemical or ectopic pregnancy)?

I saw the heartbeat on a sonogram at around 7 weeks. I didn't hear it until around 12 weeks. Even then, it was very tough for the doctor to find with the doppler.

We heard and saw it on ultrasound at 7 and 10 weeks and then at 12 weeks.
As my 12 weeks appointment my midwife was also able to hear it with the doppler.

I heard it and saw it at 6 weeks. I just went to the OB (at 14 weeks) and heard it on the dopplar.

heard and saw it @ 8 weeks. Couldn't find it on the doppler until 14.
