How long after your engagement does it become inappropriate to have an engagement party? FH and I got engaged this past February, and we really wanted to wait until we bought a house to have an engagement/housewarming party.........thing is, we may not buy a house until next year. We don't want to have a formal engagement party, more of a relaxed sort of bbq when the weather is nice.

i read online generally customary to have an engagement party within 3 months after proposal...however...i don't know so much that its a rule versus mere suggestion or traditionally speaking...when r u getting married vs buying house

I have seen LOTS of people get enagaged one year and have thier engagement party a year later.

We got engaged the end of November and had our party July 2nd. I think as long as its not really close to the wedding I don't think it matters.

Lol well I've been engaged coming yo a year and we didn't have one yet lol but u dunno if we r having one but I would say that it's fine lol

we got engaged in december and i told FH it was too late to have one now. But he suggested just having a 'Hey! we're engaged, we bought a home, come celebrate with us' shindig. We wouldn't make a registry for it, and we'd prob wind up BBQing.. (idea has been smushed since FSIL rudely told me how selfish and greedy i am bc my parents already threw us a meet & greet for fam and bridal party after our engagement...) But I think you can do it whenever you want, however you want!!

Yea, I agree with everyone else- I don't think it really matters. I'm not having one, but that's only because I'm wayyyy too busy!

i think since we all have such long engagements, the rules are a little different. im having mine in november and i've been engagement since may. my wedding isnt until august 2013 though so while i wish it was sooner, i think its fine.

I was just talking about this with my friend who got engaged in June. I told her as long as its closer to your engagement then to your wedding. She having her engagement party in May and not getting married till Oct 2014. (Her FH a marine and there waiting till he out for the wedding.)
