When it comes to clothes...do you *HAVE* to have name brands...

Original post by btrflygrl

some things I need to be certain brands (like VS bras...the only store that seems to have an abundance of my size and the bra I love)

and other things like tees and tanks...I'll buy at Walmart

Yes, I shop labels...to an extent. I am not crazy into designer stuff, but I like quality clothing. I love buying from stores with satisfaction guaranteed. I love to shop Ann Taylor, J. Crew, J. Jill, LL. Bean, Brooks Brothers and Lands' End. Anytime I have ever had to return an item to these companies, they were SO helpful and I got my money back or a new item.

As far as handbags, I love Coach and Dooney & Bourke because of the quality leather. I will NOT buy their logo bags just because of the name, in fact, I only have leather Coach and D&B bags because I think the labels cheapen the brand.

Labels should be on the inside of the clothes, with the exception of the discreet polo player or golden fleece sheep. As the Official Preppy Handbook said: why wear someone else's LV or YSL when you own EBW III is so much nicer?

I don't HAVE to have name brands...but I tend to buy them because it's where I see what I like - I've bought stuff just about anywhere. Shoes really don't matter except for sneakers. I really only by name brand.

i don't HAVE to have them, but i do usually end up buying them. but that's mostly b/c i don't live near a target or something like that. i mean i'm in manhattan i'm surrounded by name brand stores the only thing i must absolutely have are new balance running sneakers.

I buy VS secret bras because of the fit and quality and size. I also buy new balance sneakers b/c they're one of the best for you. other than that, I buy jeans at gap, old navy, ny&co and Lane Bryant. Sometimes I beocme partialt to brand for awhile if I find stuff I like. I don't shop for clothes at costco and target, but I'm not brand picky at all. Sometimes I buy brand stuff when i can afford it and the look or quality neccessetates it, but I'm not a brand whore at all..

I do however love chapstick brand, gidive chocolates and anything lenox! I'm a china snob! it HAS to be lenox!

It depends, Like for my attache - I have to have coach. I beat the ever-loving cr@p out of my attache cases & only Coach lasts more than 6 months. For shoes, I try to ....for the same reason. I like to buy designer, but it is not always a necessity.

I do not have to have brand names, I could care less about the brands. Almost everything I own is from Eddie Bauer, LL Bean, or Lands End. I don't think of them as 'brand names' but more like easy shopping. I HATE anything with a label showing. I will not buy anything where you can see who makes it. Including handbags.

Most of my clothes are, but I definitely have quite a few that aren't. And even the name brands I often get at Marshall's (got a new pair of Lucky jeans there last week that I love!). For the HM I bought a few sundresses at Target. They weren't things I will wear much after, so I don't care that they aren't as well made. For staple items, I always pay more for better stuff. I got a cheap poncho I love at NY&Co. today because I doubt they will still be in style next year...For a black peacoat or long winter coat, I would definitely pay more for the better stuff...But I also shop the outlets for cheaper name stuff. My cashmere winter coat was from the Barney's outlet at Woodbury Commons...

certain things, yes....I wear 99% of the time only VS undies and bras....although believe it or not Old Navy undies aren't bad!

I only wear Gap jeans because they are the only brand that fits me right.

old navy undies are the best - they carry the size that fits my tiny heinie. i don't like vs bras though, for the $$ you would think they'd fit better - but thats just me

My old navy undies elastic came apart the first time I washed them!

some of my new old navy undies have started to shread - but the old ones are tough as nails. but i didn't expect much for $7.50 a pack. i really like the way they fit, though.

No, and I have never been that way. I usually buy what I can find for a good sale. I get a lot of work clothes at Old Navy for example. However, I do own a coach bag (because it was a great deal). I always feel strange when I spend money on a brand, because it is so unlike me. I do enjoy it occassionally though.

i like certain brands but never pay full price.

the older I have gotten the more i realize you get what you pay for...
(Not to say I don't have anything non-name brand...I happen to love Old navy's capris and tank tops...)

I just know that those types of things will not last long. The sweaters that have held up the best are name brands...as are the pocketbooks, jeans, and skirts....

Good shoes are priceless...New balance are the only athletic shoe I wear.

So I do tend to buy a lot of name brand items...

Would I die without them...hmmmm
Maybe! LOL

Only Aerosoles for work and dress shoes. They're the only shoes I feel comfortable in, other than flip flops or sneakers.

I hate to admit it but...yes! I love to have brand name products because I associate them with quality, which I knmow is not always true. I just COULD NOT wear a dress from K-MART. I even saw a cute dress there the other day and couldn't bring myself to buy it. I love Banana Repubic, Limited, Donna Karan, Crew, Ann Taylor. And I LOVE shopping at boutiques like Fox's.

Most of the companies I tend to get are brands just because I like the quality of the stuff better. I like: Gap, Paper Cloth and Denim, J Crew, Banana Republic, Brooks Brothers and Ralph Lauren Polo and Ann Taylor

I've gotten a cute skirt at K-mart that I wore a lot. The material was good.
