Is it better to appear eager to banquet managers or play hard to get? If you play hard to get, I guess they'd want to 'chase' you more and offer you incentives to find their place more attractive. On the other hand, I think if you act super interested, they'll know that you have good potential to be a customer and they're not wasting any time putting together a fair package for you.
Which do I do???

Re: When searching for an RH...
So, I'd last checked at 6:15, and no contract. FH and I went out tonight for our 4 year anniversary (yay!) and I just got home at 2:00 AM... to see that I didn't get the contract. WHAT IS GOING ON??? You read the e-mail; he clearly acknowledged that he was taking a long time and promised I'd have it by the end of today. Well, um, it's 2:00 in the morning and already tomorrow.
OK, it's our 4 year anniversary tonight, I will NOT let this bug me; I will enjo the night with my FH, and tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and I'll deal with this on Friday or saturday.
Till then, if you girls have any Michael voodoo dolls, would you mind sticking a pin in his side?

Re: When searching for an RH...
Sorry to keep beating a dead horse, but now it's 9:30 the next morning and still nothing. I'm seriously almost crying here.
FH doesn't understand how frustrating it is. Here is a place that we agree on, both love, and is really the only place so far we can picture ourselves getting married at. And it's been a whole month now since we first visited, and we STILL don't have a clear idea of how much it would cost, so we don't know if we can afford it. Yet we've stopped looking at other places because we've convinced ourselves that this is 'the one.' The innkeeper was supposed to give us something last Thursday, so I've been so on edge since then, waiting for it, checking my e-mail every 10 minutes. 3 times I've written to him about it, and 3 times he gives me a new date for when it'll be ready. And all 3 times he's been wrong. So now here it is, Thanksgiving, I'm getting together with my family and have all these pictures to show them, and how embarrassing it would be if it turns out the inkeeper decided to raise prices to $150 a head for 2008 and we couldn't afford it? FH is all, 'calm down, we've got time, just call him on the phone on Saturday instead of e-mailing and see what is going on' and while that's reasonable and level-headed advice, I'm not feeling reasonable right now. I'm feeling disappointed and upset and I want this darn contract proposal and it's driving me CRAZY that for the 3rd time, this guy didn't deliver.
Sorry about the rant. But I figured if anyone would understand, you girls would.

Re: When searching for an RH...
do you want me to call and ask where the contract is? I'd be annoyed too, it's their business, this is what they do, you'd think they can e-mail a contract!

Aw, you're so sweet, thank you. The thing is, this is not their business. They are a New England country inn; they only have 10-15 weddings a year. So I guess I have to understand that he's running his day-to-day inn business, and a wedding 2 years away isn't at the forefront of his mind. But for me, it's all I think about!

ohhh it makes a little more sense now, then you definitely have nothing to worry about. It probably is exactly what you said, he's very busy running the inn. I would keep on him though, I don't think it makes you sound desperate, it makes you sound like a bride that wants things done! I'll still call if you want me to.

Re: When searching for an RH...
You know, I actually had someone do that for me before. when i first moved into my apartment, I had to pay a $500 'move-in' deposit, in case I broke anything in the building while moving my stuff in. I didn't, of course, and 3 months later still didn't have that money back. So I called one day, and they said they'd mail me a check. No check a week later, and I called back, and the guy was like, 'oh, we have to look into that for you.' A friend of mine from work heard this, and was like, Okay, enough of this crap. So she took the phone and called right back and gave them heck, threatening to sue them for the money, calling them unprofessional, yadda yadda. The funny thing is, I have a pretty high-pitched voice, and this girl has a total smoker's gravelly voice and a super heavy brooklyn accent. The guy on the phone was like, 'Wait, you can't be Dava.' And she was like, 'Who the H E L L do you think I am, then? Fool! Send me that d*mn check!' And he got so scared, he did! Like, that minute! I got it in the mail 2 days later.
