When should I send out STDs? When is it appropiate?

I am getting married October 1, 2004 and I am wondering when is it appropiate to send out my STDs. We are having our Engagement Party at our house on Aug 23, 2003, so I was thinking of sending them out in October 2003. Is that appropiate?

i just sent mine out yesterday for our april wedding.
i wanted to do it about 8 months in advance so it gives them a chance to plan, but not too much time that they forget.....i'm not sure what the proper time for it is though!

Ok.. I must admit I'm a little lost.

So we send out STD's about 8 or so months prior to the wedding? then send invitations 3 months before the wedding? with RSVP at the lastest 1 month before?

i thought the invites go out 2 months before to give them a month to reply.

I have alot of guests coming from out of town. Mostly, my college friends because I went to school in FL and now we all live all over the place (Alanta, FL, Hawaii, Mass, NC, etc..) So, I wanted to send the STDs so they know to save the date and of course $$$, because it is expensive to travel for a wedding. I am basically doing STDs for my college friends and some out of state relatives.

I too have a lot of out of town guests. We are getting married november 2004 and I think we are going to send out the STD around feb. 2004.

I just sent mine out yesterday for my Feb 04 wedding. I was a little late. I would have liked to have sent them out at around the 8-9 month mark. Oh well, better late than never.
