When to book vendors?
I was wondering when it is suggested to book various vendors for a July 2002. I am not sure on how quickly most vendors get booked in Long Island. Thanks for the advise! Nancy

I would book them as early as possible. There is nothing worst then finding a vendor you really want and then finding out they are already booked for your date.

Plus, the less you have to do as the big day approaches the better! I wish I had listened to my own advice! LOL...I spent the entire month of January 'catching up' when I've been engaged since Dec. of 1999!!!

When to book vendors?
my wedding is in July of 2002 and I booked the reception and church last year in March and photographer/videographer, band, limos early this year. I think the sooner the better.

When to book vendors?
Thanks for the help. I guess I should clarify something...I don't live in the area. I had a hard time getting to the reception places to look because while we visited FI's family it was supposed to snow. We ended up booking the day our flight was rescheduled too (it was cancelled.) Anyways, I am not able to visit often to Long Island and was wondering in what general time frame most people book. I mean I know the sooner the better, but that is difficult for me. To be quiet honest I don't even know where to begin with all this vendor stuff. Scotto Brothers did recommend some places but at the same time they seem to be some of the most expensive. In general though, I am hoping to be back down in July this summer to look at some vendors! Too late? Guess I will have to gamble!? lol! Thanks for the help though. Nancy

Nancy don't worry -
Nancy, I am getting married this June and I am in no rush... you will see there are so many venders that you will not have any problemes... they are right that if you have your heart on one specific (let's say photographer) then it's best to book early but there are so many great photographers on LI that you will find one. That goes for everything - So don't worry....

Planning out of town too.
Hi Nancy, I'm getting married in Sept. and am planning the wedding from NC. Got engaged April 2000 and started booking stuff right away. Many of the places were already booked for 2002. So I guess it depends who you want to go with. I chose smaller companies and they had more available. I booked the photographer and DJ at about a year before the date. Flowers I just booked now at six months before. I would just call around and see what kind of dates vendors you are interested in have open. GOOD LUCK!

When to book vendors?
Booking a year before might get a little dicey with some reception sites or vendors, but there are plenty of options if you don`t have specifics that you absolutely must have. The more open you are, the easier your planning should be, especially if you`re flexible with your wedding date. Determine what`s most important to you and start from there. Reception sites, dj/band, and photography/video are probably all among the first vendors booked about a year out. Flowers, limos and tuxedos you could probably wait a little longer. We`re getting married in Sept. and only have tuxedos left to do. Since it`s not prom season, I`m not worried. :)

4th of July!
Well, there you go! Not a typical day for weddings, but a fun one for sure!! Friends of ours got married on July 4th and are still 'bragging' about the discounts they got for choosing that day! Too bad I tossed that letter I got from Grucci for a fireworks display, I could have sent a copy to you! LOL

4th of July!
OK, non-island native doesn't know who Grucci firework display would be?! DO they come on site? We thought about having everyone go to Morgan's Park for the fireworks! I have always wanted to go to Jones but we usually leave that day to come back. That and Chris doesn't like to get stuck in traffic! Discounts are offered from vendors too?? I know we got a 19 dollar/plate discount just for booking that day! The great thing is my family will be able to travel down there and have a vacation while there, you know? THanks in advance! Nancy

I did a 4th wedding, the bride & groom & bridal party wore red ,white, and blue and it was all at a discount. It was great.

Nancy!
Nancy, The Grucci family is notorious for the fireworks displays all around this area ... and I`m pretty sure they do the one in the city too. I don`t exactly recall the prices, but it was something like ... 3 min...$3,000 4 min...$4,000 5 min...$5,000 Of course the longer your fireworks show, the better and bigger the fireworks they use. This was just a little out of my range! :) But it would have been beautiful right on the water at John Anthony`s, especially since we`re in the upstairs room. No, we`re not getting married on the 4th of July, but what a show it could`ve been!! P.S. - about vendors ... never be afraid to diplomatically haggle a little. The worst they can say is 'this is the best I can do.'
