Guys, my parents are asking me to send Thank You cards to the guests already, but my professional pictures will be ready in 3 months at least. Should I just go to Hallmark and get regular thank you cards with no photos? What is the etiquette?

Re: When to send Thank You cards?
You definitely have time to send out your thank yous. Most people know that you are likely waiting on your professional pictures to come back for thank yous. Actually, proper etiquette says you have up to a year to send out your TY's, but I personally would send them earlier than a year!!!

def wait for the pictures to come back and get something done from prhotorapher. Thats the cuttest. Every wedding I go to I know I will get a thank you within 6 months.

Re: When to send Thank You cards?
Some people now say you have up to a year to send them. thats just insane. I once got one 8 months later and was like ummm this is pretty darn late! LOL. I had already assumed we wern't getting on or it had gotten lost in the mail. I waited about 4 weeks after my honeymoon to send mine and people started asking our moms if we got their presents about 2 weeks after we got back.
tradional etiquette states to send them 2 weeks after you return from your honeymoon. I think they should be sent no later than 6 weeks after the wedding if you are doing photos. If your photos will not be ready within that time, maybe send a store bought card, and send photos later on- maybe around the holidays. This is what DH and I are doing because we couldnt wait for our photos to send the thank yous.

Re: When to send Thank You cards?
here are some links that might help you. I am seeing that it is now okay to wait up to, but no longer than, 2 months.
Here is Martha Stewarts etiquette rules.. I'd say hers is the best to go by! She says they must be written within two months of the event. This is probably the most accurate etiquette.
Personally, I chose a vendor who assured me my pics would be ready within a month of our wedding date for this very reason. lol
However if I was in your spot I'd probably get simple thank yous from Hallmark or take one of the non-pro pics a guest sent me and use snapfish or kodak to make cards and send them now. Than at the holidays I'd send the wedding shot in their christmas cards

This is a good idea if your pro pics are taking too long. I received thank you's 5 months after a wedding. I have never gotten one in under 3 months... most waited for their pro pics. I wouldn't stress either way you do it is fine... but I would def include some kind of pic in with it.

I was going to say, maybe you were a guest at my wedding!! I just started sending ours out the end of May- just after our 9 month mark! I've had a really busy year since our wedding, what can I say

Re: When to send Thank You cards?
I was wondering the same thing but I'm also concerned about sending thank yous for gifts we are receiving before the wedding. Most etiquette says that you have to send a thank you as soon as you get the gift if its before the wedding but I want to send pics with my thanks yous. I also think its a little strange to send a thank you for an event that hasn't happened.

Within 6 months, but the sooner the better. I've actually gotten thank you's from other weddings almost a year later

if its really close to the wedding- its okay to wait and send it after. If its a few weeks before, send a thank you now for the gift and then send them another one after the wedding thanking them for attending. And if they didn't come, then its one less thank you to write later on.
