When you sent out your invites did you...

When you sent out your invites did you...

hand cancel them yourself, or did the post office people do it??

The reason I ask is because yesterday I went to send out my invites and I told the teller I would like to hand cancel my invites myself..and she gave me a look like she didnt know what I was talking about...so I explained to her what hand canceling was... ...and then she says 'Oh, they do that automatically at the main post office in the Bronx'...is that correct? I always thought they got hand canceled at the post office where you dropped them off at.

I just handed the postman two boxes of invites and he took off with them. No idea about hand canceling?

nope, just sent them to the post office w/ the stamps, had the clerk check for the postage, sent them through.....

From what I gathered hand cancelling is manually doing the mark that goes over the postage (those wavy lines). It is usually done by a machine, but you can hand stamp it so the machine is avoided. I believe hand cancelling is done at the post office you drop it at (thats what mine did) but he took them and did it after the office closed(atleast he promised to). Either way my invites all arrived perfectly!

When I sent mine out they handed me the stamp and I did it..>I didn't trust the post men/women...LOL

That being said....I saw some of the invites that got sent to my close friends and fam and even though they were hand stamped, some were smudged or had a tracking sticker placed right over the name or address..>LOL so you can't win!

This may be a little dumb, but I thought to be fun, we'd send our invitations to a town like Bliss, or Bridal Veil Falls, or Fidelity to be hand cancelled rather than have them cancelled with our regular hometown on them. I saw something on CBS about it and you can get a list of towns that have names like that across the country that will do it for you

I asked for them to be hand cancelled and the girl said no problem and took the invitations to do them herself. Which worked out great for me because I wanted no part of it!

The guy at my post office hand cancelled out STD postcards, which was very nice of him and completely unneccesary (since they're A - STD's, and B - postcards). I figured some bridezilla must have gone in there and raised a ruckus at some point.

didn't bother with the hand canceling... just dropped them off in the mail box
