Whenever unhappy with a service or company it pays to write a letter

When we were in FL we had a rent a car. The car $ucked. The wind shield wipers didnt work (which in FL is NOT a good thing when it rains), the car wasnt really clean, and the brakes had problems.

When we got home FI wrote a letter to the customer service department via email and they sent him a reply. They are REFUNDING half of our money

We should be receiving our refund check in 2 weeks.

So ladies if you are ever unhappy with a service or prodcut it is definatly worth a few minutes to write a letter to the company.

holly thats great that Godiva did that for you.

I am so happy that this rental company has been so accomodating. I expected maybe a coupon for a discount for further rentals, but to be refunded half our money I am really in shock about. I think that is so nice of them.

FI and I are planning an nice dinner out at our favorite place

definately pays to write...
we do that whenever we have problems with a supermarket item.. and the companies are pretty good about fixing the problem...

I have a funny old story in relation to this...my mom still tells it and we all laff...

Its kind of gross but when my aunt (moms sister) was about 17 she went to put on a maxi pad and thank goodness she looked cause right there on the pad was an embedded dead flea..or fly or some kind of nasty bug...

So she wrote to the company and told them of her disgust and what had happened just for personal satisfaction not really to get anything in return and about 2 weeks later there were 2 hot guys delivering to her home...boxes upon boxes of free maxi pads...clearly labelled on the outside of the box..bad enough if it were now but we are talking like 1957...

So writing did get her something but oh my was she embarrased about it!

OMG that is emabarassing...
i think the companies use to do more but sooooo many people write them now..

like 10 years ago a teacher said she was eating crackers and enjoying them, then looked down at them and saw little bugs crawling over them.. wrote them and they sent alot of boxes of their products... nowadays they send coupons for free products..

Re: Whenever unhappy with a service or company it pays to write a letter

YES it does pay to write, Im a big fan of letting them know !

Last week, my sister and I went for our Spa Days (I still havent posted my review here ) well everything was excellent but the waiting was ridiculous!! and it was Elizabeth Arden Fifth Avenue! So just for that we got really annoyed at the waiting, and the LATE start of the *should have been one hour* massages. So as we were doing makeup one of the girls was reallyyy friendly and spoke Spanish (and we understand Spanish-Italian is so similar) well she goes (in a secret whisper of course!) 'not happy ?? write! speak! you will come back another day free!'
So ya better beleive im speaking up!

Once I went to Canada on Amtrak with my parents. I was never so disgusted. The restrooms REAKED, and food on board was stale, nuked, gross stuff. thank God we had sandwiches, they were SOOOOOO running late because of people on board that didnt have good documentation.
Well I wrote a letter (trip to canada was $120 round trip) well they sent me a $200 credit !

My sister used to work at Radio City, in customer service. If anyone complained about a show they couldnt enjoy because of loud people next to them, they got free tickets to go back! (This was before CAblevision owned them, theyre mgmt is very different and much stricter now )

Anyway, it pays to voice your opinion !

It definetely pays to write letters if you are unhappy. I had my luggage lost for three days on a cruise and got half of the money of the cruise back just from writing a letter.

That's great Melissa!

I wrote to American Airlines about our horrible flights to and from Puerto Rico and just got an 'I'm sorry letter' and that's it

Re: Whenever unhappy with a service or company it pays to write a letter

normally I always get stuff for my complaints(which are legitimate)..however.....

my parents recently wrote to mc donalds... on vacation went in one... looked at the kitchen workers, one was cutting a sandwich, touching the sandwich with an ungloved hand.. looked at the other kitchen workers.. non are wearing gloves...
mc donalds writes back... 'im sorry'... no freebies..

FIL's get REALLY bad service at ground round... they even tell the manager there... he just says 'oh'... they write the company.. get nothing...

REALLY bad service at Ruby tuesdays.. their cocktails never came till 45 minutes later(in the middle of dinner), they had a tough time flagging down their server, never received the leftovers of their half eaten meals... the company never even wrote them back...

That ****s!

This is kind of the opposite:

We wrote a letter to Chili's for a great job they were doing. At that time we were regulars and as some of you know we even have our preferred waiter. They sent $50 in cerftificates to use. I was like WOW, we weren't looking for that but it was still nice of them.

At my other job Fridays...they are always giving freebies. If the drinks would have came out that late it would of probably been on them after complaining. For anything they will give free desserts or comp an appetizer for. It also does not look good on the server.

Re: Whenever unhappy with a service or company it pays to write a letter

Here is another tip I got from a friend and believe me it was definatly the best tip I ever got. If you dont succeed at first, write to the president of the company.

Last year we used a rental car company and booked on line. When we got to pick up our car the rental price was practically doubled because of some hidden fees and insurance and some other mumbo jumbo.

When we got home I wrote a letter and I got the 'I'm sorry for the problem' letter and that was it. I was so annoyed. How do I book on line and get a confimed price and then when I pick up the car I get charged double. I wanted something back. I went on line and tracked down the MAIN headquarters and not only did I send a letter but I also called the CEO and President of the company. (I got his secretary) Within overnight I got a refund for all the extra expenses.
