FH and I would love to buy a house, but are finding that the 'Good' areas are just so expensive. And we dont want to live way out in Long ISland cause it is not convenient for work. I dont know what we are going to do??

I have friends moving to North Carolina for that very reason. What they can afford to pay in NY buys them a mansion basically in NC.

LI is so expensive so we're going to stay in NJ where we live now. It's very close to NYC where we both work. I would love to move back to LI though.

Thats like the house in FL. A house up here can buy us a mansion down their. Even the taxes are low.
I cant wait to have the house built. Everyday I wish we were down there already.

We are looking at houses in Shelton CT, its between Stamford and New Haven, about 1 hr 20 min from NYC. I plan on relocating work-wise as well, although I may have to tough it out for a while. You can get a LOT more for your money in CT then anywhere else we looked- and the taxes are way less than NY. Some houses in LI had over $10k a year in taxes, FH almost collapsed when he heard that!

We were fortunate to have found a house before we got married....but I agree with you that the market is just too high now. A few of my friends who are getting married this year have decided to rent for a couple of years and then figure stuff out.

I just paid my land taxes in FL.
We own a 1/4 acre of land and we paid $100 for our taxes. When the house is built the taxes will be about 1000 dollars and that gets included into a break down with the morgage. So the morgage will be 700 dollars and about 100 dollars or so is the taxes.

FH and I finally found a house in December, after looking for a year. We really wanted Sayville, and we wanted a particular area of Sayville, but the houses down there were so expensive. We were able to wait it out until one came on the market that we could (barely) afford. Of course, it needs much work, which we are doing slowly but surely.
He was going to live in it and I was going to join him after the wedding but my brohter moved back to town and was sleeping on a couch! And there I was with a house I wasn't even living in! So I moved out and gave him my bedroom.
But we have to hide it from FH's family - they would MOST STRONGLY disapprove of us living together before marriage and would probably boycott the wedding.

FH and I are leaving NY...maybe Atlanta is next. Regardless we'll live in my apartment until we move. He is about to move in...very excited, although strong disapproval from all the parents!
