FH and I would love to buy a house, but are finding that the 'Good' areas are just so expensive. And we dont want to live way out in Long ISland cause it is not convenient for work. I dont know what we are going to do??

We are in the process of looking to buy a house or townhouse either in NJ or Long Island. There is such garbage out there! But until then , we will continue to live on our apartment in Manhattan! Going to miss living in the city!

We are most probably moving to Houston,TX. We are going there in October to meet with two different builders that we have researched. We are going to build a custom home in the Kingwood area. FH has family down there, so we feel comfortable moving there. It is just so beautiful as well. After looking her on LI, we just know the $$$ cost of living it out of this WORLD... we don't want to live paycheck to paycheck... besides I can't stand the TRAFFIC here on the island. The cost of living in TX is CHEAP and No State Tax We both have jobs that we will be able to find easily there, so not worried about that. For a house that runs ~800k+ here, will be ~200k there. We are taking our two dogs and packing up and going. I can't wait I believe we will be having the house built the year of the wedding, but not moving in until after our wedding here in NY.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not alone in moving off Long Island! We are building a house in Florida which should be done in time for the wedding next April. It's getting to be so expensive up here on LI that nobody starting out will be able to afford it. It really ****s because I would stay here if we could afford it.

So excited that we bought a house, just hope we close soon after returning from the honeymoon but the owner said we could stay in the apartment if we dont, or we may even just stay at one of eachothers houses for a couple weeks if need be.

We are looking for an apartment in Nassau or Queens because FH is going to NYU for law school, so we can't afford to buy a house right now. Once he is done in 3 years we will probably buy a house in LI.

We are looking for a house right now, hopefully we will be in it by the end of this summer!! I really want to live by my family and friends, but things are so expencive where I live now.

FH and I will continue to live in our Merrick Apartment until we have enough money to buy a condo or cheap house. Eventually we will move to Florida.
NYCMeghan- Trust me your parents will get over the fact of the two of you living together before the wedding. My mother had a huge problem with it and even said she wouldn't pay for the wedding if I moved out, Well, I have been out for a year and she is still helping with the wedding.

DH and I had major debates about our housing after marriage. He lived all his life in Nassau county and I'm from Queens. We can't afford to buy a house in a good neighborhood, don't want to pay rent, and LI is too far to commute to work. Thus, we opted for a cooperative apartment in Queens (not the same area of my parents).
There are many other options other than buying a house such as: cooperative apts, condo, rent, studio, etc. Find one that best suits the both of you as well as your financial status. Good luck.
