You might want to contact an agency or something because apartments that accept animals are hard to find. My dh found our apartment by going to a place called roomfinders on sunrise highway. I think he payed $85 (this was 8 years ago) and they found him a place in one day that would accept pets. Look in the pennysavers that come every week, sometimes I see some that say pets are ok.
if you want to move to Jersey.. let me know. Dixon Mills in jersey city takes dogs and all sorts of pets.
Your best bet would be to try to rent an apartment in someone's house. They are more flexible with that kind of thing than an apartment building IMO.
I have been looking for months! There are actually a lot of placed that accept pets but most of the time they are in complexes and a lot of money. We didn't want to have to sign a 1-year lease so the complexes were no good for us. We kept looking in the pennysaver every week and actually found some that way. It is hard to find a person renting part of their house that will allow pets. We finally found one through someone we know. They will allow Gizmo but I can see why. The place has not been updated in Decades! The floors are old and ugly... I guess they don't mind pets because the place is already gross, the pet wont make it worse! There are tradeoffs you have to make sometimes!

I guess I was looking at the wrong apt buildings! The only ones I found would just allows cats, but not dogs (even small ones). Are there any of these buildings in Nassau? Thanks!

You can technically have a dog in any apt as long as the landlord does not try to evict the dog within 90 days of first seeing it. It is part of the Renter's Rights.

There is a complex in Lake Grove that accepts dogs. Like the others said, I think you would have much more luck looking in a complex
Actually, now that I think of it, my friend lived in a beautiful apartment in Oakdale and she had a dog. I don't think she was supposed to, but she did! It was right on Oakdale-Bohemia Road across from the school in a complex. You should check into it!
