Where did everyone go for their dress?

Original post by ladybugaboo

Did most people start with a specific designer and some magazine clippings? Do you just go into a salon with an open mind?

Even though I looked through magazines,I tried to have an open mind. Espically that so many people say that you should try on and look at different styles. I ended up getting my dress at Macy's which was the 1st place that I looked

I looked thru mags and online. I knew what type of dress I was looking for and what fit looks good on me. Then I went to 2 stores and got my dress at Lillette's in Baldwin.

I had 3 or 4 magazine clippings but also went with an open mind.

I went to Paradise Bridal and we tried on a few similar to the pics I brought and a few very different ones...

I ended up buying one similar to one of the pics and I love it!!

I went to RK bridal with some pictures. Once the sales girl saw the styles that I seemed to like she came up with some great suggestions.

I went with an open mind, and some pics of styles i liked as well as dresses i had worn in the past so that the girl had a general idea of what my style was.... and she broughty me dresses that would meet my style..

Go in with an open mind but I would also look through magazines as well! I got mine at Lillettes and it was actually one of the dresses I had chosen from a magazine!

I kind of went in knowing that I wanted a ballgown...because I know that dress is good for my body type.

Just have fun!

I saw a dress I kinda liked at macys (but i had seen it in ivory and that color does not look good on me). I liked the style of the dress though, so I went to Fantasia's w/ a picture and said 'do you have something like this'. They said they had the dress...they had it in diamond white. I put it on and it was magic!!! I brought my mom the next day and I bought it. What a difference a color makes!

Re: Where did everyone go for their dress?

I did my initial searching online. I found two dresses that I liked. I searched high and low for the one, of those two, that really caught my eye. I fell in love the second I saw myself in it, but went to a Vera Wang sale, (to try everything I saw that I liked) Bridal Reflections, (to try specific Eve of Milady dresses, but tried on @ 5 others) and Princess Bridals in Farmingdale (to try on a specific dress my sister had tried on). Total I think I tried on 20 dresses, but never that other dress of the two that I found online. In fact, I had forgotten all about it until yesterday when I was cleaning up misc wedding stuff that I didn't need anymore, and among that stuff was a picture of that other dress.

All I can say is don't neglect ANYTHING, I tried on my dress JUST SO my Mom could see it because she liked it. I thought it was awful. I put it on and didn;t want to take it off...good luck, you'll know the one. Don't stop until you get that feeling that you dont want to take it off.

The only dress I loved after looking at about 5000 online was at Kleinfeld. I went there, tried it on and it just wasn't for me. I went to a few other places with pictures and then finally wound of finding my dress at the Wedding Salon of Manhasset at an Alvina Valenta trunkshow. I LOVE IT!!!

I went to RK bridal. I had designers and model numbers in mind, but it turn out the 'Dress' was the one picked out by the saleslady. If you go request Olga she is awesome!

Re: Where did everyone go for their dress?

I got my dress at RK bridal earlier this month. First, I surfed the net and wrote down my favorite designers before going in. Also, I had a particular style in mind. I am glad I tried on different styles, b/c I fell in love with a another dress ,it is important that you go in open minded. Rk bridal is great, the staff is friendly and professional. I have no regrets.

Re: Where did everyone go for their dress?

I bought my dress at RK Bridal, though I also shopped at Kleinfelds, My Daughter's Wedding, and one more place on 5th Avenue in Manhattan (forgetting the name now). RK had a great selection and lower prices. It does have a warehouse look, but the staff I worked with were friendly and professional.

I went in with magazine clippings, and the saleswoman got a few of those dresses for me to try on, but she also pulled others that looked quite different from what I had pulled. Turns out, they were the most flattering dresses on me, and the one I chose was one I never would have pulled off the rack myself. So, I recommend going with an open mind, wherever you go. The salespeople probably have a better idea of what will look good on you than you do.

I went with an open mind and a general style of dress I want. I went to the Bridal Garden in Bethpage and the girl there was great so nice. Only store I went to and bought the second dress I tried on, I tried on a few more, but loved the second one I tried on.

Re: Where did everyone go for their dress?

Since I live in NYC, I started out at RK Bridal - they have TONS of dresses! That helped me narrow down what I was looking for - the girl there actually found the dress I ended up choosing - which I would never have thought to look at. Then I headed over to Bridal Garden in Bethpage - they don't have such a good selection...and I only went here because my friend recommended it. I ended up ordering my dress at Burton's Bridal in Huntington. They have so far been a real pleasure to work with...and they give good deals to boot. Good luck on your search!

Re: Where did everyone go for their dress?

Looked at magazines and online. Went to Macy Bridal Salon for the Demetrios trunk show and bought the 2nd dress I tried on. It was not even one that I had picked, my mom picked it out. I have been to alot of bridal salons on Long Island when I was a BM and was not pleased with the service. However, when I got a BM dress at Macys, I was very pleased with the service. So that is why I returned.
