ITA with everyone....ceremony and reception sites should be first. Also, have some sort of rought number in your head about how many guests. You don't want to look at a room and then find out the minimum/maximum doesn't fit!!

congrats on your engagement...we got in engaged the last of Jan. and we didn't book the hall until late April. We did a lot of 'vision thinking' in between that time like what season, theme, what do we expect at our wedding, budget, etc.

Re: Where did you all begin and how?

Congrats!!!

We waited maybe about 2 weeks before we started making appointments at RHs...but I really was anxious. I knew I didn't want to have a super long engagement, and I knew things would definitely be booked for 2009 at that point (late June 2008), so we had to get a move on right away. First we made the RH appointments, and it took us about a month and a half to go to all of them and make our decision. We had a ballpark of when we wanted to get married, but the prices and availability at the place we really wanted actually made the decision for us. It worked out to our benefit, because it bought us a month to two months extra planning/savings time, and we didn't have to compromise on the day and place. Then made sure church synched up.

Then we took a vendor break for about a month and a half, and I did my own thing during that time...dress, shoes, veil, etc. Then we started on photo/video and did that.

Then we took another month and a half vendor break and started on florists...then booked that. I'm doing little things in between of course, like makeup, STDS, invites, headpiece and jewelry.

Now we're looking to start DJs in a few weeks...so in keeping with out month and a half between vendors trend. Limos we'll probably do in late Spring.

You've got a lot of time...you can definitely afford to enjoy yourself for a few months, and pace yourself even 2 months between major vendors, and you'll be fine.

Good luck!

Re: Where did you all begin and how?

After getting engaged we began doing research on different venues that we wanted to check out. Also, keep in mind some venues might not be able to accommodate your guest list. (very important to know before you go visit.) We checked all the venues we were interested in in each borough. We finally decided on LI because we felt we get more for our money JMO!! Then we booked. Once you get your date then everything will revolve around that. Afterwards, we booked photo, video, dj.

I started looking through bridal magazines just to get a feel of what type of dress I would like. It makes it a little easier if you know the style you like: mermaid, ballgown, etc. Then, I decided on a color scheme and started meshing ideas together. Then it went on from there.

Re: Where did you all begin and how?

We did the hall first becuase when I called around for prices, the day we wanted was already taken (16 months in advance!). Then we did the photographer because that was the second most important. In the mean time, I was checking out theknot.com for gown and color ideas for BM dresses and invites and flowers. The rest all falls into place as you're moving along in the process. Once you pick the hall, they sometimes have preferred vendors and the style of the hall helps with your style.

Try bridalcanvas.com to put together an inspiration board. You can also try projectwedding.com, snippet + ink and stylemepretty.com for ideas. Good luck!

Re: Where did you all begin and how?

Congratulations! It is an overwhelming process but so much fun! I've booked a few things already and I feel like I did it so fast!

I wanted to book the big things right away...hall, videographer, photographer and DJ...we did all that within a month or so of time...we had limited options for our wedding date due to our jobs, so I wanted to make sure we got what we wanted!

We got engaged 10/29/08 and our wedding date is 11/7/09....and all I have left are the flowers, limos, and tuxes...and of course the gifts and stuff....a friend is doing my invites so I am not worried about that!

Enjoy the whole process! Before you know it, the day will be here! :)
