I'm just wondering where you got engaged? Was it romantic? Did you cry? Were you suprised?
I was SHOCKED when the love of my life Carlos proposed. We had been going out for a few years but I never thought he would pop the question so soon. He even asked my Dad if he was OK with it!
I'm in the beginning stages of my planning and need all the help I can get. I've been browsing through so many sites, chat boards, and vendors. I'm so excited!
TIA! Love ya! -Sandy.

At Pfiff restaurant in SoHo. He has the entire restaurant in on it, down to having them make me my favorite dessert, having my favorite flowers on the table and playing our song throughout the proposal. It was so romantic!

Re: Where did you get engaged?
In Florida at his grandparents' house. We were visiting for the weekend and about 1/2 hour after we got there, we were sitting on the porch with them. He starts saying, 'I'm so happy to be here with the people that I love'. Me being me is going (in my head) 'he's such a freaking cheeseball' and didn't pay too much attention, until he started putting his hand in his pocket. I was SHOCKED. I really thought it'd be a few more months and I NEVER thought he'd do it at his grandparents! He got me good, I have to say. I didn't cry but I think it was because I was so surprised. I just kept saying 'OMG, OMG'.

Re: Where did you get engaged?
Another Cindarell's castle bride! I hyperventalated and was hysterical. I had no clue.
We got engaged at the top of the Montauk light house. It was so nice!
This was his original intention but it didn't work out that way. We were staying at my Aunt's house in Jamesport in the beginning of December (yes, not the typical time to stay out east but we needed to just get away anywhere). That Saturday the museum at the lighthouse was having an event for Christmas that we were planning on going to. Not only was the lighthouse part closed for the season but FH was having a horrible allergic reaction to my aunt's cat that had been there the weekend before and the first blizzard of the year decided to occur that week. We ended up leaving early on Friday to make sure we got home before the snow was really bad. He dropped me off at the apartment I was living in at the time and said he'd be back to pick me up in a little while. After he came back we decided to go for take out. On the way out of my apartment he stopped me and told me to look around. I was like what am I looking at, all I see is snow. As I turned back to him he had the ring out and proposed. I don't remember much after that but I was crying...totally surprised. It turned out that when he told me to look around he had written 'will you marry me' in the snow but I couldn't see it. Though the proposal didn't go as he originally planned, it was amazing and definitely a night to remember

We got engaged at the beach in the pouring rain under an umbrella.
How romantic!!!!!
Most of you have really great stories.... mine is pretty bland. It was going to be really cool (we were going to Broadway for a show the and night out in the city the next night) but I caught on so he changed his plan which I really wish he wouldn't have The only reason I caught on was because he started dropping major hints.
Anyway, so to try and surprise me, he did it the night before instead. I had just gotten home from work... I was exhausted and cranky... he had candles set up all over the place, had made me a romantic dinner with soft jazz playing in the background. I SO knew it was coming. I really wanted to tell him to wait until the next night like he originally planned but I knew I couldn't say that.
Anyway, he got down on one knee and proposed after dinner. Needless to say, I wasn't surprised and though I may have teared up a little, I didn't cry.

Re: Where did you get engaged?
I to am a Montauk Light House girl. FI asked Dad and Mom (Divorced) and had me think we were celebrating his B-Day over a weekend. He had me invite my sister and her DH my cousin who we r very close to and her DH and he proposed on the beach. I was stunned but did not cry.
He did it right when we got there so we celebrated all weekend with my family. It couldn’t have been better
One day I will get around to scanning the pics. We even have video!

Re: Where did you get engaged?
It was our three year anniversary. We had plans to go out to Dinner to our favriote resturant in Brooklyn...We had an unexpected snow storm that day so the weather was terrible...since we both work in Manhatten we took the subway down. On the way we took a walk by the water near the Brooklyn Bridge (Brooklyn Side) and he gave me my anniversary present....I opened it and it was a Bridal Magazine....from that point I knew what was going on....we hugged and cried from the excitment...and after a women and her pooping dog was finished he went down on one knee.
I attached a pic from that night, right after he proposed!
he asked my parents 2 weeks before he asked me and my aunt and uncle went with him to pick out the ring. needless to say my parents walked around biting their tongues for 2 weeks, my dad slipped, but i was so clueless.
it happened on june 24th at the beach...he came home from work early and we went...i was clueless. we walked to where there was nobody and he sat down. i played with shells by the water and finally sat next to him...he had a picture of the ring i wanted in his pocket...he had taken it a couple of months before and would take it out to teast me. he took it out and said 'tomorrow when you go to work you can show everyone this' i gave him a reallydirty look, but then he reached into his pocket and said 'and compare it to this' he was holding my ring and he asked to marry me. i didn't cry and i said yes...those were his stipulations otherwise he said he was taking the ring back.
it was great because the next day was my last day of work. i am a teacher...so it was a fun last day.

Re: Where did you get engaged?
CherylBooch how is it that there is noone around in those pictures? They're great!
I got engaged while laying on the couch at his house complaining that I had a headache and that I was in need of a massage. It happened so fast. In a flash he was out of his room, on his knee asking: Will you marry me?
I was like: Are you serious?? Is that for me???
I freaked! Didn't cry until about a week later when it all hit me. But I guarantee you, you've never seen a more excited person

Re: Where did you get engaged?
Hotel Room - San Antonio , Texas (my true home - in my heart always)
We had just gotten back from going to a good ol Texan Festival.. Luling Watermelon Festival...
I was exhausted and hot and sweaty and at the time he proposed I was irrated and annoyed and still a little shaken from the near death near-miss accident we had just gone through and the drama of changing a tire in July Texas heat then finding a shop in downtown San Antonio to repair the busted tire and check out the rental for any damage (it was a REAL close call) and THEN and FINALY we checked into the hotel.
It was NOT my best of moments.
I still tell him.. that he picked a time to pop the question at the WORST time for me. I was all icky and stuff. But he said he couldnt stop thinking about it. heh
I was NOT prepared. I knew we were ring looking but I didnt realize he had already gotten a ring!! He waited until we were 'home'. How sweet is that? I got to show it to my Dad (who drove down, it was a family gtg) and my Grandpa who died only a few months later. It was really really nice.

Re: Where did you get engaged?
Upstate at a bed & breakfast for my birthday. I thought we were just up there celebrating my birthday so he got me good! I had no idea it was happening.
We went to a winery all day and then went to dinner. On the way back into the house from dinner, he wanted to hang out by the waterfall for a while before going upstairs. I was like 'are you crazy' because it was freezing and I only had a denim jacket on. So we were standing in front of the waterfall for a while and he was hugging me and saying sweet things and all of the sudden he got on his knee and asked me - I just kept repeating 'are you serious, are you serious'. I guess he was serious! After a lot of crying and shaking and kissing I said yes! Then I wasnt so cold anymore.

Re: Where did you get engaged?
Hotel room in Hawaii. He was going to do it on top of Diamond Head, but I was so tired from the hike that I was being mean, so he didn't want to do it then. I wouldn't go up the last thing of stairs to the top to overlook Honolulu. He was going to do it there. I shouldn't have been such a jerk.

Re: Where did you get engaged?
it was thanksgiving day and my fh is a filmmaker. he said that we needed to go to a nearby park to shoot a scene for the movie he was in the middle of shooting and he set up the camera and then we started to do the scene. on the 4th take of the scene he goes' are you ready, are you ready?' he got down on one knee, recited a poem and the asked me to marry him. i was hyperventilating. the coolest thing of all is that we have the whole thing on dvd!! plus afterwards- we wnt to his house and our families were waiting for us- what a great thanksgiving!!!!
