Where did you get your ring? LI girls esp.

My FSIL is getting engaged and looking at some pretty cheesy shops. She thinks my place was too expensive
Where did everyone else get theirs from?

FH wanted to go thru a friend's 'diamond' guy, but ended up buying it at Kay jewelers.

FI purchased my ring from a jewerly (where he knows the owner) in Garden City South (I do not know the name of it off hand).

i tell everyone to go to tri county (upstairs) theh have a huge selection of city vendors. i use andreas romantic jewelry or gabriel jewelers. they have GREAT stuff...and you dont pay for the name of a large jewelry chain. and you can design your own or get inspired by their beautiful creations! eww, i sound like a commercial...but you get the idea. give it a shot! youll at least walking around surrounded by diamons for a day!

ps..most places let you pay off what you decide on.

I just reset my ering and got a matching band- I looked EVERYWHERE and found exactly what I wanted at the Karat Shop in huntington. They have really beautiful things and their prices are reasonable compared to everywhere else I looked.

My setting is from Estate Jewels in Huntington. The center diamond was through a 'connection'.

Frassanito in Huntington was good too - they had traditional/contemporary settings as well as different/unique ones (with center stones if wanted).

Personally, I would stay away from the mall jewellers. *JMO*

From a diamond dealer that is a friend of the family. It is hard knowing where to go if you don't have anyone you can trust. I have heard all good things about Good Old Gold. They have a very informative website. That might be a good place to start.

Just curious, why cp? I know that my FH got my e-ring at a 'mall jeweler' and I love it and get many compliments, never have had a problem with it

Fh went to a 'mall' jeweler and I have a beautiful ring. Not to mention he did not get ripped off at all. If anything, he talked them down lower than if he went to some smaller place.

I would recommend Fortunoff - their reputation is outstanding and their prices are reasonable -my mother used to manage a jewlery store and she said for a large retailer, they are by far the best.

We have a friend that works for Tiffany Co. He brought FH to the guy who sells to Tiffany in the city, so he could get it cheeper. His name is Valentin Magro. So it's a Tiffany ring without the name.

I think the quality at mall jewelry stores is just as good as anywhere else- But, in general, I find that malls are more expensive. That is not to say that you can't get a good deal.

If you know your facts, then you can get a good deal at a 'mall' place. FH was just nervous because he knew nothing about diamonds and this was his first big purchase ever, so he felt like at least if he got swindled, he could find the people who did it. He said he was worried he would buy my ring from a small store and if there was a problem, he would go back and they would have gone out of business or something. He's a worry-wart.

My experience with *certain* mall jewellers has been that they are overpriced for the quality they are providing. We looked at stones for sh!ts & giggles - my FH wanted me to see the difference in sizes - and they were quoting us 2 x's the price that he was getting through his connection (lesser quality, no less)...and 1 1/2 times more than Frassanito's quoted us (again, lesser quality).

I just *personally* find the mom & pop shops to be better - I didn't mean to offend anyone.

I agree with Fortunoff...and Macy's is supposed to have really good quality as well. Not sure of the pricing though.

Mine was ordered online from Borsheim's FH has stock in Berkshire Hathaway and they own Borsheim's so he felt safe and comfy. It is a Scott Kay Platinum band and he got it a lot cheaper than Bailey Banks and Biddle sells it.

Got mine at a mall shop too- I was looking for a really unique setting- but I didn't know what it was.. I didn't know if I wanted antique, modern, or what- I just tried on rings everywhere.

The setting I found I guarantee no one has- it's weird... and it's slightly chunky- which is what I wanted.

But I think if you buy diamonds anywhere, you better be educated.
