Aw, no story, actually. That dog is the one we gave my parents 10 months ago. (We call her 'ours' though!) Still working on getting ourselves one!

We got our puppy from Save a pet in Port Jeff (I think the adoption fee was about $125)

I got my childhood dog from the North Shore Animal League in Port Washington. The dogs are free but, they do require references. My family always supported this organization.

We got ours through a shelter (adoption day at Petco). She wasn't free but they pay for all the shots and spaying so it was worth it.
Look at Petfinder and you can see some of the dogs available at local shelters. That's where we started looking and how we found out about the adoption day.

I believe the fee for adopting Max at Little Shelter in Huntington was $60 (and it's possible it was 'discounted' since he was considered a hard to place senior dog).

I adopted my lab at NSAL 8 years ago - and they simply asked for a donation - - based on how much it cost them to house, feed, nueter and immunize the pet. At the time- I gave them their recommended 'contribution' - $35.
