Re: Where do you put salary history...
Did the job ask for salary history (as in somethig you would normally see on an application) or salary requirements? If a job requires history, I would put it on a separate sheet - not on the resume.
If it wants requirements, I would put a range in the cover letter.

Re: Where do you put salary history...
You should include it in your cover letter, not as part of your resume.

Re: Where do you put salary history...
I would put the salary range you would accept on the cover letter, not necessarily your actual salary history.

Re: Where do you put salary history...
You can mention it in the cover letter like this:As an administrative assistant at XYZ Company, my starting salary was $30,000 and upon leaving XYZ I was making $38,000. Something along those lines.
And end it with 'My current salary expectations are in the range of $45,000 to $50,000 annually'.
Just a guideline! good luck

Re: Where do you put salary history...
I agree with everyone else that it doesn't belong on your resume, but I wouldn't put what your requirements are unless they specifically ask you too. Salary history is just start/end salaries for the various jobs that you have had. Including a salary requirement (without being asked) can be to your disadvantage - it can be used to low-ball you or eliminate you right off. Benefits (Medical, life, vacation, 401K, ESOP, Stock options, etc....) are also important part of total compensation.

Re: Where do you put salary history...
I've never included a salary history on my resume before. I even went to a resume writing workshop when I was going to college, and they never mentioned it before.

Re: Where do you put salary history...
interesting, anytime i was asked for salary history i put it on the resume near the job title. so it looked something like thisXYZ Company Jan 00-Jan 01
Admin Asst $30,000
then description of the job here.
salary requirements i put in the cover letter, but i always felt like the history was better placed on the resume.

Yeah but the problem with this is... if the job ad says they want it... if you don't put it on there somewhere you can get your resume thrown out by the recruiter or HR person thats reading it.
Most places want salary history because they don't want to waste their time (and yours) interviewing people that they know their budget cannot afford.

Re: Where do you put salary history...
I am in HR and the reason behind salary history vs. salary requirements is that a compnay is less likely to hire somebody who is taking a huge paycut. For instance, I am recruiting for a 40K purchasing job now. I am less likely to hire somebody who was making 70K b/c they are more likely to leave once they find a more lucrative position.Anyway, I just wanted to throw my two cents in.
Usually people either include a separate page that is a salary history or they put in on the resume. I would only do it if it is asked for.
For example:
Salary Expectation
Middle to high 30K.
Salary History
Company 1
Position X, September 2003 to Present
Starting Salary: $30,000 plus commission
Present Salary: $30,000 plus commission
Company 2
Position Y, July 2002 - July 2003
Starting Salary: $40,000
Ending Salary: $40,683
Company 3
Position Z, June 2000 - July 2002
Starting Salary: $32,500
Ending Salary: $36,000

Good point and very common in today's workplace.
