since you are in the city maybe try the bridal building.

On LI there are tons of shops, depends on where you want to look

I would log onto the knot and do a dress search. Find styles you think you like and then click on locations - that should help you narrow down your travelling time. I found a few designers that I really loved...but the dresses were only available in Michigan or Virginia - so there went those ideas.

I think finding dresses on-line and bringing pictures with you, makes the whole process less painful. Jmo.

In LI I would recommend Lillettes. Gerri is the best! Also there is a place called Wedding Plaza about 2 blocks west of Lillettes. I had a good experience but the selection was small.
I went to the bridal building but it was overwhelming for me. Too many doors to walk through and too many dresses to search through.

It also depends on your budget too. The only place I looked was the Wedding Salon of Manhasset, since my BF got her dress there. I ended up getting mine there during a trunk show & met the designer who was great, and I love my dress!! I didn't plan on going there for the trunk show, but it pays to get it at one since you usually get a small percentage off & get to meet either the designer or a representative of the company. If you have no idea what designer (which I didn't) that's a good place to go, I also agree Lillettes is good too, and you may want to go to Kleinfeld's since they have a large selection of dresses.

Good luck & have fun!

RK Has a huge huge selection and you can shop throught them on your own. Macys in Manhasset has a large selction that you can basicly shop through on your own. I would try to go on a weekday during the day for the best service at either of those two But for the full salon treatment I would go to Kleinfields.

Michelle Roth has gorgeous dresses. Depending when you go she will be there to help with any design changes you may want.

Wedding Salon of Manhasset, or the bridal bldg in the city.

I liked my place Blanchee in Long Island

wacky...I have an appointment at Blanchee's this Sat...one of my FSILs got her dress there after being so frustrated at not being able to find what she wanted.

My first stop was RK Bridal. I liked the fact that I could pretty much browse on my own...I didn't want a salesperson hovering over me. During the weekends its an absolute zoo, I found the best time was during the week late in the afternoon.

I also had a good experience at Macys in Manhasset.

I ended up buying my dress at Charmet in Bayside, a little shop on Bell Blvd. They bet the best price I was quoted for my dress, and their seamstress came highly recommended.

Good luck! Shopping for dresses is FUN!!

I have had a great experience with the macy's in manhasset. the women are always helpful and my dress came in two months earlier than expected. i think they carry mainly the demetrios lines, so you may want to check them out on-line first to see if you like those styles.

good luck!!!

In the city my favorites were: Amsale, Carolina Herrera and Vera Wang.

In LI my favorite was: Iman Bridal Couture in Old Brookville (even though other people seem to have had negative experiences there).

The only two places I HATED were: Clea Collette and Michelle Roth (both in the city).

I highly recommend Priscilla of Boston in Roslyn. That was the first place I went to and I found my dress that day! Ask for Nina - she is so sweet. You might want to check out their website first to see if you like their style. And just a warning -they're pretty expensive (my dress was my biggest splurge). Priscilla of Boston

i checked out style of dresses online at theknot.com. Then when I found a few I liked I found out where they are being sold and went to those specific places. It saved me alot of time and aggravation.

If you want to go into Brklyn, you should go to Valentina's. They are a local shop with great selections, prices and people.
