We will be converting my parents garage into an apartment for me and him over the summer. This way we can save up for a house. They are soooooooooooooooooooooo expensive!!!!!!

FI is going to move into my apartment in Westchester and then hopefully I can convince him to move out to the island.

We already have been living in an apartment in Farmingdale for 3 years and that's were we will stay till we can afford a house. Does anyone regret having a big wedding and spending all this money that could have went towards a house?

oct1203 I don't regrit it but I do wish we waited a little longer to get married, we should of waited until next spring, but everything happens for a reason so I can't look back on it now.

Sometimes I'm so happy I'm having the big wedding and think I would have regreted it all my life if i didn't but then i look in the real estate section of newsday and get very depressed and wonder if it really was all that important since it feels like we are married already and i could have been married already and not have had to wait this long. Also I could have been pregnant already. I always wanted to be married and have my first kid by the time i was 30 and that isn't happening since i will turn 30 in April. I know everything happens for a reason but it's depressing. I'm afraid I won't be able to get pregnant for awhile since so many people I know (especially when they are getting older) are having a hard time. Sorry it's so long just something I've been thinking about lately.

For right now, FH will be living in the apartment in Florida that he has now, and I will be moving in next week. When his lease is up in June we will be looking for a 2 bedrooms apartment. So we will be in a new place before we get married and probably after a year we will look for a house.

OCT I always think this is a down payment on a house and it will be gone in one day

Nancy, I totally know where you are coming from, You make this master plan and then everything changes, even though I'm twenty six I was allready supposed to be married, be a teacher with tenor, have a house , and one kid, but of courese that did not work out, I probably will not start having kids until I'm thirty something, getting married is supposed to be a whole new adventure you should enjoy it, about the pregancy thing don't worry about risks, I know two people who had babies and they were 37 and their babies are fine. Keep your chin up!

Thusmuf and jennbaby- Thank you. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks about this.

Nancy you are so welcome, it's good to relate to someone who feels the same way.

no way, we totally think about it all the time! we actually have our own house and i still have lots of loans from school and i think, for the same money i could pay off ALL of my loans, or we could pay down on the house, or remodel the kitchen, or....
but that is practical talk, and that stuff will come. you only have your wedding day once (or maybe twice ) and we deserve it! (even if it is hard to stomach outrageous prices for one day!)

don't worry Nancy, everything will be fine. you are still very young!!

I feel really old though. I guess I'm starting to get the 'OMG i'm going to be 30 and look at where I am depression'. I thought the fact that I'm planning a wedding would distract me from that but I guess not. I'm just getting really scared the closer we come to the wedding. People (my stepmother and MOH) are already saying to me 'when are you going to have a baby you know you're not getting any younger'(Yes they actually said that!!) and 'what if you have problems and then wasted all that time' ( that was FSIL and FMIL) . I really wanted to wait till we thought we would be able to get a house because our apartment really isn't big enough but then they said well just get rid of your dining room (okay were would you suggest i put all my furniture?-my MOH said 'in storage' -I guess she will be giving me the money for that as a wedding present). UGH!!

Re: Where is everyone living after they get married.

oh no i hate it when other people put unnecessary pressure on. i am so sorry. but i think we are all sort of there, in the sense that now i am beginning to worry, can i have it all (career and kids), what if i cannot conceive,
all of those feelings. plus i am having this weird thing happen lately. whenever i get around a small child, something kicks in inside me. it is almost cellular. everything inside makes me want one! Does anyone else feel this???

but you know what, a couple of years in the grand scheme of things is just not that long. i am not saying you have to wait until it is the perfect time (because it will never be 'perfect'). BUT, if you and your FH want to wait a little while, you have PLENTY of time. plus it will be better for your relationship, AND much better for the baby if you are feeling more relaxed and have a bigger place and are more financially stable. then you can really focus on the miracle of having kids, rather than the stress of changing the baby on the dining room table. in all seriousness, i don't think you should worry so much, you need to do what you want and NOT let society or your mother pressure you to rush things (that is never good the end for anybody). and if you are really worried, i say go talk with your doctor. there are some tests you can run if you have anything that indicates that you may have a problem conceiving. but honestly, i bet you will be fine!!for every woman i know that is having trouble (and most of them end up having children anyway) i know 2 women who had kids in their late 30s early 40s. RELAX! (but know you are definitely not alone!)

edited to say, i think you need to take a bubble bath and go get yourself a pedicure. you deserve to pamper yourself today! i always get the blues this time of year! feel better!!!
