So I am sure many of the invites (for various reasons) cannot be scanned through the mail machine. If this is the case, where did some of you ladies drop them off? At the post office window? Or did you put them directly in a standard mail box?

Actually, a lot of them have you do it yourself...

Speaking of different prices...I just came back from the post office (a different one this time) and learned that they originally told me the postage was LESS than it was supposed to be.
I was so pissed becasue I had two people weight my inivte to make sure this didn't happen -- the same thing occured with my STD. The assured me that they had told me the right price but they were wrong and wrong by .20 cents.
Luckily the woman behind the counter felt bad for me and stamped the invites through anyway.
It's amazing how you try to do something right and they still mess you up.

Another question about hand cancelling...Is it only at the initial drop off (when the hand cancel) that the envelop gets weighed?

I dropped them all off at the post office and hand cancelled all of thrm so they wouldn't go through the machine

I went with one envelope complete to have it weighed/priced before I got stamps made for all of them.
Also the woman at my post office hand canceled them for me. I didn't even have to ask! I brought her a box of candy and said - I'm about to ask you to do me a real big favor... and she said Oh No Of course I was going to hand cancel them for you. I was lucky - she was great :)
If you can, go to a smaller - less busy post office. That's what I did.
