Which came first... color or the dress?

Those of you who have picked your bridesmaid dresses... did you pick your dress first, and then choose a color you though it looked good in, or did you have a color in mind and then choose the dress based on that?

I picked the dress first and then the color. Honestly, the colors I was originally leaning towards would have looked ridiculous on the dress I picked out. It was easier to make a decision seeing the particular fabric and cut - and how the deisgner's colors look in person.

ETA - Unless you're dead set on a color (which happens and is fine!), it's easier to decide on a color after you've seen a bazillion dresses.

I picked the color first, and then found the BM dress.

I know I'm getting red. I haven't started looking at stuff yet though, just online.

I thouht I wanted a light purple for my girls, thought I liked the dress, went to the florist and had all my flowers picked out with purples and blues. A week later I found the dress that I loved for my girls and changed everything!! They ended up in black/ivory gowns and our flowers were hot pinks/oranges/ and greens!!

I knew what color I wanted all along, it was just a matter of finding the dress

i thought i had it all figured out in my head, what my wedding would look like, yet, the picture wasn't fully coming together. when i found the BM dress, it was in brown, a color completely not in any part of my original wedding ideas. i could've ordered it in a deep purple, like i originally intended, however i fell in love with it in the brown and then all of my wedding ideas just clicked into place! so, it was definitely the right decision!!

I knew what color I wanted. I saw a dress that I loved in the color I loved and its such a beautiful fit

I knew what color I wanted- Tiffany Blue, and then we found a dress that all the girls loved it didn't come in Tiffany Blue but it came in turqouise and I decided it was close enough

i am not really doing 'colors' per se so I went in just looking for something that was flattering (all my girls are similar sizes and shape) that they werent totally opposed to... We also went to Lord and Taylors and found a regular party dress so I didnt do the typical bm dress scene.

After I decided on my dress - which is champagne, I knew that my color theme would be brown. BM dress and tuxes were brown and they look fabulous. Also, I have multicultural bridal party so I figured that everyone will look good in brown.

I wanted either purple or blue, but found dresses I liked in a Magent and went with that instead.

I knew I wanted a medium blue (not navy, not sky blue) and while I was willing to compromise if I had to, I had my heart set on finding a dress in this color. Easier said than done.

Luckily my girls all fell in love with a dress that turned out to be close enough to what I wanted.

color first - i always knew i wanted dark purple, an i was very excited we were able to find a nice dress in the purple that i wanted.
