Re: Which pots are better?
I think the answer could be both, because stainless steel you dont have to worry about wear and tear, and the fact that they wont chip, or flake off into your food.
I like non stick for certain types of food though but you have to really watch the teflon. First sign of a flake or scratch or chip you gotta chuck it.
Stainless steel will just last you longer

No matter how much money you spend on nonstick pots and pans, it will always have a shorter life than any other type of pan- stainless, aluminum or cast iron. I would say you need a few nonstick fry pans, but for saucepans and stock pots you really don't need nonstick. I like calphalon one because its easy to clean like nonstick but isn't as tempermental (ie you can use metal utensils and put it under the broiler).
totally non-stick. They cook more evenly and make food easy to flip and toss around. They are a bit more work but sooo worth it in my eyes.

I really like Farberware stainless pans...that's what we have at home now. They do a good job. You could register for a set like that that is affordable and then maybe a few extra pieces like a le Creuset (coated cast iron) dutch oven for your soups /stews. You definitely need nonstick pans in 8' and 10' for your eggs/breakfast items and I wouldn't spend a ton of money on them because you're going to need to replace them every few years.

I do have a Calphalon non-stick large/deep skillet. I think its called a chicken fryer or something like that. I also have the Calph non-stick grill pan, which is my pride and joy. I use stainless stockpots for sauce and boiling pasta, so I guess what I really need to do is just upgrade my current nonstick set and register for a few other pots.

Re: Which pots are better?
my mom and i swearrrrrrrr by stainless steel
non stick can wear off and theres that old wives tale that nonstick can be toxic if cooking at a high temp.
plus you can cut stab stainless steel and it doesnt damage it....
nonstick is nice because its easier to clean but it does wear off. try registering for a little of both
