Which scenario would you prefer?

Original post by EvenEdan

Scenario A:
Getting married on a Saturday night in late November. Church is at 3:15PM. Cocktail hour starts at 7PM. You get out of church and are all finished by 4:15 but it is dark by 4:30 so you basically have no outdoor pictures in daylight. Your reception hall has a gorgeous interior for photos, but still, there are no outside daylight shots. The weather may or may not be cooperative anyway.

Scenario B:
Getting married on a Saturday night in late November. Church is at 1:45PM. Cocktail hour starts at 7PM. You get out of church and are all finished by 2:45PM. You have ample time to go to a garden for outdoor pics in daylight. So now you are all done with pics and still have hours to kill before the Cocktail hour even begins. The weather may or may not be cooperative anyway. Your photographer leaves the reception an hour before it ends because you refuse to pay overtime charges.

Which would you prefer?

Some questions that come to mind? What do you do with all those hours in between. The flow of the day just seems so off in Scenario B. I feel like I would look all busted by the time I even got to cocktail hour and the Bridal Party probably will be exhausted already. On the other hand, how can I not have any outside daytime shots with my new hubby? And seeing him before the ceremony is not a consideration for me. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I would go with B. Because I am greedy and I want pictures to be as nice as possible.

My family will get ready in between for the reception.

I agree. Its YOUR day, taking the time out for pics and spreading your day out will inconvience your family slightly but in the end you won't be compromising your special day...JMO
btw-We have a huge gap in time and I was worried about this as well. My family is having a brunch/lunch at my house while we are out taking pics so that it doesn't seem like wasted time for our guests.

Definitly B. Your day will be soooo rushed and quick, the longer you have before your guests start pouncing on you, the better. I think if you do A, you will lose a lot of alone time with your new husband and also a lot of pictures with you and him. On my day, I only really remember before the reception and at the end of it when the night slowed down, everything inbetween is a blur. I would have loved to have some more before reception time with Evan. You're so happy at that point its so nice to just be together. We didnt even mind all the pictures because we were just smiling at eachother the whole time. If you can extend those moments and that time together, you should. Without a doubt, you should.

Of those choices, I'd go with A, but I think that even that leaves too big a gap between the church and the reception for your guests.

I agree. I am getting married on a Sunday night next November. My church starts 1:30, will be over by 2:30-2:45, there is about a 15 min ride to where I would like to take outdoor pics, (which leaves about an hour for pics before it gets dark), then, there is a 30 min ride to Floral Terrace. So, that is about 5-5:30 PM, and my cocktail starts at 6:30. Now, I kinda have a different situation where Floral Terrace offers to have our guests go there straight from the church (if they have no where else to go). They will give them hors d'ouerves, champagne/drinks, etc. So, I really am not that concerned. And like Bethsiar says, the day goes by so quick that that time in between really is important. I am not sure about other families, but in our families, it is quite normal to have a gap like that...guests should have a place to go, whether it be someone's home or a restaurant for 'in between refreshments.' People realize that the couple has to take pics and what not...so do what's best for you!!!!

Def A. As long as you can get nice inside shots then you're fine. Also remember the weather could work against you and you'd have to take them inside anyway like I did.

For me personally, I love the sun and daylight so I would opt for scenario B but some people like the night pictures. What do you like better?

Re: Which scenario would you prefer?

I would have went with Scenario B because the time in between was a godsend for my wedding day - with 2.5 hours in between I was still rushed taking pictures and getting settled in before the cocktail hour.....but I don't like the idea of the photographer leaving early...so for that reason I pick A.

I know I got married in late October and had limited time for pictures outdoors...I didn't care as much because the place I picked was very pretty inside....I picked a place I liked indoors in case it rained or the daylight or in case it was freezing (and it was a pretty chilly day). As much as I wanted outdoor pictures it wouldn't have been the end all for me. I managed to sneak in a few though....

I am taking pics before the ceremony so our mass can start at 5:00 and our reception at 8:00 and we can take pics in the light outside.
