Which side of the bed do you sleep on??

One of my friends told me about a couple she knows who do not have sides of the bed - they just sleep wherever they fall asleep and share the night stands. We thought this was strange and DH and I started wondering about everyone's bedsharing habits.

We also realized that he and I, my parents, and my sister and her husband all sleep with the girl on the left and the guy on the right (while lying down, not facing the bed).

However, his parents sleep the reverse way - but his mother is left handed, and we wondered if this makes a difference.

Any thoughts?

ETA: In the case of my mom, my sister, and myself, I'm realizing that the woman is nearest the door - I wonder if this has anything to do with being the first one up when you have babies and they are crying...not that I have any yet!

DH would love this one!

I am neurotic. I need to sleep on the side of the bed where the bathroom is ... if there is no bathroom, I need to sleep on the side where the door is.

He wants to try switching sides all the time but I CANNOT DO IT! Because I also have to have the clock on my side and I'm not moving the clock just so we can try it out!



ETA: It happens to be the right side of the bed laying down.

I always sleep on the left, DH on right..

though I am left-handed, so I guess in my case that blows your theory , Jax..

at first we were sleeping with him on the right and me on the left...and he always slept with his back towards me because his left shoulder had surgery...then we switched because I figured he'd cuddle better if I was on the right since that's the way he faced.....NOPE...he still sleeps with his back towards me!!

Tim does the opposite - he's always facing me! He'll have his back to me while I'm still watching TV (& facing the other way) but the minute I turn off the TV and face towards the middle of the bed, he turns over and starts breathing directly in my face!!!!!

I did mention the neurotic thing, right?

We pretty much sleep on the same side regardless of where we are. When laying down, he needs to be on the right sie. Even on vacation!
It's funny about your perspective of who sleeps closer to the door. I had always heard that the man sleeps closer to the door to protect the wife incase someone were to enter the room (I know, a little morbid, right? ). I like your version better!
My parents always slept with my dad closer to the door and my FH now does.

OMG - I am laughing out loud right now, my co-workers think I'm nuts!

I also need the blankets & sheets perfectly straight - I am constantly flattening out the wrinkles in the bottom sheet after getting into bed.

I sleep on the left, but we actually had some controversy over who would get to sleep on the left. Seems we both like that side best!

I pretty much sleep on his left, but even if we switch it up for some reason, I fall asleep in his arms with my back facing him. AWWWW. . .and we're not even married yet Maybe that's why we're still cute.

This is how we sleep but it started because we used to be in summer share houses and I was safer away from the door

I sleep on the left side. We had arguments at the begining b/c I wanted the right side....but i'm getting use to it, plus, he gets up before me, I ALWAYS take over his side

For some reason this makes me think of your DH snoring and thrashing about in the bed. I dunno why. But that is the picture in my head right now. I think my brain is doing its own thing this afternoon...as it is not doing any of the things I want it to be doing...okay, off on a tangent...

He does also rub his feet incessantly (sp) in his sleep!! And he really doesn't have to THRASH to make me go flying since he is 6'5' and 250+ and I am only 5'4' and lets just say weigh less than half.

We just bought a very $$$$$$$ mattress to stop me from bouncing away!!!!
