One of my friends told me about a couple she knows who do not have sides of the bed - they just sleep wherever they fall asleep and share the night stands. We thought this was strange and DH and I started wondering about everyone's bedsharing habits.
We also realized that he and I, my parents, and my sister and her husband all sleep with the girl on the left and the guy on the right (while lying down, not facing the bed).
However, his parents sleep the reverse way - but his mother is left handed, and we wondered if this makes a difference.
Any thoughts?
ETA: In the case of my mom, my sister, and myself, I'm realizing that the woman is nearest the door - I wonder if this has anything to do with being the first one up when you have babies and they are crying...not that I have any yet!

Oh my!! My dad is a drummer, and he actually keeps time with his foot in his sleep. I remember as a child going in to ask them something and thinking my dad was awake because his foot was moving, but he was dead asleep. Personally, this would drive me nuts, but I guess my mom is used to it by now!!

I always sleep on the right. I think maybe because his bed at home and at school was usually facing so that the perosn on the right was against the wall. I like to be protected. Now, even on beds that aren't agaisnt a wall, I'm usually on the right..I never really thought about it before...good question!

I have to sleep on the left. (He likes the left too- but I win ). I also like my sheets/blankets PERFECT, he throws them all over .

i sleep on the left, he's the one closer to the door...
and while we're sharing the sleeping habits of our partners.....my lovely husband shakes his leg in his sleep (who does that?) so hard that it shakes the whole bed..... he needs to have the tv on to fall asleep....( i like quiet) and when he's falling asleep he turns and throws himself down on the bed....full-force. i was actually just making fun of him for this the other day
So he's a noisy thrashing, leg-shaking fool in bed.....

ahhh yes my DH refers to this as 'the Jimmy Legs' I am fairly certain he did not make up this crazy name, wasn't it on Seinfeld or something??!!
I'm on the left - he's on the right and closest to the door.

FH would prefer to sleep on the right closest to the door... however since he moved into my place, I had already established my side of the bed which is the right side closest to the door......so does that answer it?

I always sleep further away from the door. In my old apartment, that meant the right, but in our house that means the left.
It's a safety thing. I feel safer with him closer to the door in case someone broke in, although he could sleep through a parade coming in the bedroom!! So I'm sure I would still be the first one up!!
