While Planning the wedding, Did you or FH...

get a second job?

i'm finding that i am getting nervous about the cost or the wedding and little details i would like to add.
i'm contemplating a second job (weekends and maybe 1 night a week)

have you girls done or planning on doing this? what kind of job did you pick up and do you think it was worth it?

I was actually thinking of the same thing. We have to pay for our honeymoon and photographer so I was thinking that maybe with whatever I make at a second job, I would set aside for that.

i was going to but FH didnt want me to so what we are doing is picking up overtime at our jobs and setting aside my entire paycheck every week and using his paycheck to live on to pay bills and rent and whatever else we need so we figure in a years time we should have more than 3/4 of the wedding paid off

hopefully this works as we just started doing this recently lol

i would love to be able to put away my entire check cuz i think thats such a great idea but we can never do that. we have rent and he has 2 kids to pay for plus my car payment is a stupidly high amount so we would never be able to pull that off

FH just found out that he got the job at Lowes today. he plans on working 15-20 hrs a week so we can pay things off faster

ooh lowes...he should stay working there and then when its house hunting time you can get discounts on home stuff lol lol

FH got a summer internship at a law firm (he graduates in May) where he's expected to work some crazy overtime. It helps.

My job offered some ridiculous overtime last year, but they increased staff so we don't need it this year

I want to get a second job, the wedding's no problem it's the condo we're trying to buy as well that throws wrench into the works but FH doesn't really want me to work a second job, our jobs conflict so we rarely see each other as it is...

i didnt get a second job..i got a new one altogether. so i figured w/e the difference is between my old paycheck and my new one will be set aside. If i lived off of nothing for 2 years i can pull it off for another 11 months.

FH and I tutored 3-5 times a week bc we are both teachers...we put all of the money in our 'honeymoon bank' to save up for our trip to italy

Not a second job, but I worked as much 'per session' work as I could this past school year. Meaning any early-morning ELA & Math Test Prep, and I attended a few voluntary meetings after school & on preps where I was paid per session, which is like per-hour overtime pay for teachers. I also looked into the new afterschool program that began this yr, but it wasn't a right fit for me. Sad too, b/c the pay was good!

Also, any extra $$ that comes our way we deposit into the wedding account (tax refunds, stimulus check, birthday/holiday gift $$). Saving all extra change adds up quickly too. We also received gift cards for the holidays to stores where we can get things for the wedding, so we're putting them to good use.

What kind of work do you do? Would you be able to take on a few more hours or do overtime? Is there another job related to yours that you could do? For example, in teaching, you could find some type of tutoring, test prep, or summer school positions.

I have been working 2 jobs since February to help save for the wedding so we are in a better position to start saving for a house after the wedding. FH is paying for most of the wedding and I didn't want him to carry that burden all by himself. Our families are helping but we don't just want to settle. We want to have a nice wedding so we gotta do what we gotta do! It's not so bad, just takes some getting used to.

I thought about a second job, but then I realize I don;t have time for one. So, I decided to watch my spending. Bringing lunch from home and stop buying starbucks! It makes a difference watching your spending. Plus, I cut back on the clothes shopping!

FH, god bless him is now working 3 jobs. and i feel like a bum because with the schedule i have with my full time job, i cant get a second job.

He is AMAZING!!

Yes. I just started tutoring a couple days a week and will continue to do so over the summer. He has taken on a partime gig as well in addition to our regular jobs. We are paying for everything ourselves... wedding.. honeymoon the whole thing. We are very stressed. We have 1 year to save up $28-30K. Yikes!
