MOH = My closest, oldest friend BM: My sister His sister
Same pretty much goes for him Best Man = His closest and oldest friend GM: His brother My twin brothers
We have other friends, but none we feel that close to honor with this. It's not an insult but we didnt feel this was thing you just hand out like candy. We've been through some really rough times and those true friends hung tough with us.
We believe true friends are not just those who are good drinking buddies who you share secrets with, fights with and have a lot in common with. Our true friends are the ones who on both sides would drop everything and fly across the country with no questions asked when the need arises .. knowing the other wouldnt ask if it wasn't necessary. After 9/11 and the death of Jim's Uncle, we really saw the true nature of our friends.
I know that sounds too deep for something like this, but for us this was a big deal.
My sister in law and brother are not in the bridal party for a few reasons.. (another story)

They are my closest friends. I work with all 3 of them. The only hard part about picking was that one of them is a guy and I was worried that my parents might not approve. Luckily there was not a problem.

No sisters and my Sister-in-laws are all 10+ years older. No cousins in this country so my MOH is girlfriend I have had since 2 years old, 1 Bridesmaid is childhood friend, 2 is high school friend. 3 is college friend.

FH has no siblings, so I didn't have to worry about that. I have 2 sisters and I didn't want to choose between them, so I made them both BM's. I kind of don't like the whole more than one MOH thing. (Sorry-JMO) My best friend for over 13 years is MOH, and my best guy friend (I call him my brother) is married and I have become equally great friends with her (and I call her my SIL), so she is my third BM.
cousin is moh 4 additional cousins are bm and jr. bm 2 friends and 1 future niece-in-law
i'm close to all of them.

My sister is my maid of honor, then I have two friends, my fsil and a cousin. It was a no brainer for me, I wanted all the girls that are important to me!

I have 2 sisters. They are both like my MOH's, My sister in law is a bridesmaid, one of my best friends from High School is a bridesmaid, and FSIL is a bridesmaid..
I have 4 flower girls. One is my niece, another is my cousin, and the other 2 are FH's nieces.

Matron of Honor - Oldest friend, since infancy. Maid of Honor - College Roommate, the only woman I've ever lived with other than my MOM who I still talk to. I felt that ALONE deserved honor. BMs: 1 High School Friend 1 friend from home post-college 4 friends from college, one is very close with FH (he calls her sister).
FH has no biological sisters, and I'm an only child.
Best Man: FBIL GMs: 2 High School Friends 2 Childhood Friends 3 College friends

I haven't differentiated Maid/Matron of Honor and Bridesmaid. They are all bridesmaids until it is time to sign the marriage certificate.

My MOH and 4 of my BMs are my Best Friends and one is my FBIL's girlfriend whom I'm really close too also. My half sister (my dad's daughter) is a Junior BM. FH has his brother as his Best Man; 3 Ushers are his best friends and the other 2 are his cousins.
