Are there any restrictions on who signs the marriage license?
I mean, as long as the person is 18 or older, it's fine, right?
My little sister just turned 18 in August, and I was going to have her sign it, but then I wasn't sure if there's any reason why that wouldn't be legal/ok/whatever.
Thanks!

Re: who can sign the marriage license?
I was told it is anyone who is 18 and up. My sister was sad when I told her this because she is 13 and my MOH. I'm going to have my mom sign instead.

I think any two people can sign as witnesses as long as they are 18+... that's what we were told. I'm having FSIL and either my dad or FH dad as other signer.

anyone other than you or FH that is over 18 can sign the license as a witness. in NY you only need one witness but there is a space for two (and i plan on having two people sign). typically it's the best man and maid/matron of honor that does that, but you can have whoever you want.

My sister was 17 and signed the marriage liscense. There is no regulation on age. They only have to be able to swear in a court that they were present at the marriage.

Re: who can sign the marriage license?
Want to hear something funny? I have NO IDEA who signed as a witness on our marriage license! I know I signed it, and I saw DH sign it (was getting bustled at the time), but I didn't see the pastor ask anyone else to, if he did at all.... HHmm...must have been on the sly. could have been the bartender for all I know.
Regardless, we got our marriage certificate and everything's legal........ So don't worry about it, someone will sign it and you'll be fine!
