If you didn't do an engagement party, did people still find out about your engagement through the grapevine??

When I would ask my dad if so and so knows or said anything he would say 'That's why you have an engagement party' But we didn't want one.

we didnt have one....we sent out announcements to oot family. then once we set the date we sent out save the dates. we still got cards and gift from close friends and some family.

I didn't want one, I think it is a bit much asking for gifts all the time.

I am planning on sending out Save-the-dates.

I feel engagement annoucements are also asking for gifts. I just want to let people know we are engaged and when they should plan for.

Same here. We were thinking about it...but as soon as people found out they sent us cards in the mail and people took us out and celebrated. Plus we got married right away we didnt want to wait.

I didn't want an engagement party. We sent out save the dates the month after we got engaged.

Im not having a party-and i agree one party is enough! I couldnt imagine planning two! We are sending out save the dates but our family all knows about it anyway

We didn't want an engagement party either. Pretty much I think I called all of my family and close friends the night we got engaged LOL. From there the news just spread through the grapevine. I also sent out STDs.

we didn't since 1 we are in buffalo and i can't be making that many trips to LI.
2 FH was deployed with the army in january prob won't be home till jan or feb 2009 so by then the shower is coming up and everyone will know by then
and if they don't it's prob because we didn't want them to

Yes, people definitely just found out through the grapevine. I didn't want an engagement party either...it's fine if you have a long engagement but we just got engaged in Dec and the wedding is this summer. I felt it was asking a lot of our friends to feel like they had to give us all those gifts.

a friend of mine didnt but they sent save the dates magnets, so everyone knew

we aren't having an engagement party...we sent out engagement annoucements the first wee we got engaged.

we did an announcement with our STD's - no e party for us. Seems kinda like a bit much - eparty, shower, bach party then wedding?

Never got around to planning one and then it seemed silly to have it so far afterwards. I think it can be a nice way to bring people together and let family know. Gifts aren't necessary although usually given. I haven't had any friends have engagement parties or if they did do something to that effect they only invited family.
