Who dosent cook???

Original post by DCSAAB06

My FH whos been with me for 4 years now, he knows I am not the cook so for some reason he decides that tonite I should start. How sad am I that I had to look for a recipe to cook/bake chicken???
He actual is the cook and he is pretty good. I think its about being creative but, I am so CLUELESS!! I even have to call my mom as soon as I get to the supermarket. I dont know how to buy chicken either!

Sometimes I cook on the foreman grill, and the skillet. Sometimes I make pasta and sometimes I make reservations!

i dont enjoy it at all. i mean we dont go out to restaurants every night. but he works late alot too so when he gets home at like 1am I'm not in the mood anyway. Plus its not really good to be eating that late.
You have to enjoy cooking.. I just dont. FH loves to cook though. I'd rather clean up after the meal.

i cook like three things only.
BBQ chicken
pasta
and other easy things that dont require staying in the kitchen for hours on end.

the only thing i like to cook is my cheesy garlic bread. it kicks a$$.

my mom never taught me how to cook... so i rarely do... i just do it for FH.

I don't cook either and get made fun of it all the time by family and friends.

Me too!!!!

I don't mind. I love that Phil cooks.

The only time it is a problem and I get all sulky is when he doesn't cook.

I like to cook. I just feel like I make the same thing all the time. I need some new ideas.

that is it for me too. my g-ma used to show me how to cook awesome things for holidays, but my mom never liked to do the everyday thing. it was always rice/pasta and lettuce.

I rarely cook and it's always something simple like pasta. My dad used to scold my mom for not teaching me to cook. He used to say that I'd never find a husband if I don't learn to cook. Well haha, look who's laughing now!

I hate cooking. I never get the timing right and I have no patience. FH cooks and I'm very impressed with the stuff he makes. He sometimes complains but I think he enjoys cooking. Once in a blue moon I'll make something.

You poor undernourished little things!!! Seriously, Lipton side dishes are so not good for you!

I've always had a small repertoire of meals that I could make, but DH is a total gourmet. Problem is whenever he would cook for me, when we were dating, it inevitable took 3 hours!! Now that we're married, he's toned it down a bit and we make most meals together. We like to experiment too...like the other night I mentioned that it seems we always have potatoes, so we decided to have pasta instead - I had some ditalini (tiny tubes) in the pantry and I cooked some frozen peas in a little bit of butter and we tossed them together. Just made it up, but it tasted great (I just had it for lunch with some of last night's chicken )

OK Heather......., so I tried this Crusted Herb recipe. Basically taking some seasonings adding it to chicken and covering in a parmesan cheese & potatoe flakes. Sounded yummy so, I tried.

I did ok! Except that is was dry
I had to bake the chicken since FH is back on his health kick...where I could care less.

He actually liked it. Enough that he thinks I should do this more often. Uh..I dont want to. That was HARD!!

Nah, it wasnt too bad and my FMIL was impressed. I still need some practice.

ah yes , youo are SUPPOSED to screw it up if you want to get out of doign it again. . .

Chicken tends to be dry-that's why I mostly eat the dark meat.

Congratualtions! Glad it worked out!

Re: Who dosent cook???

i don't really like cooking either. there's a few easy things i can make. i'm just not good at it. seriously, one time i picked out this recipe (don't remember what it was) and it said in the book prep time 30 minutes. well 1.5 hours later i'm still prepping. it required chopping onions and garlic cloves. okay i have NO idea how to chop a garlic clove and the stupid cookbooks do not explain anything.

then i remember reading a thread on here after i'd made my christmas cookies about the proper way to melt chocolate. everyone said put it in a pot over a pot of boiling water so some variation thereof. yeah me i just put it in a pot and stuck it on the stove. oops.

my other problem right now is that our kitchen is tiny. we literally have no counter space b/c of our dish drying rack. we have 1 drawer. that's right 1. so it's really hard to cook anything let alone something that requires actual preparation like chopping, shredding etc.

i'm hoping that once we get a house and a decent sized kitchen i'll learn more.
