I know I have heard that every female that gets invited to the wedding can or should be invited to the shower. I also know that not everyone follows this 'rule.' So I was just wondering, kind of as a rule of thumb, would FH's cousins (who I do not talk to on my own) and FMIL's friends (who I have met like once) get invited to my shower even if I am not close with them??? I'm just wondering out of curiosity lol

I made my list of who I want invited and gave it to my mom and fmil made a list and gave it to my mom.

I would ask your FMIL about her friends.
I invitied FH's family (his mom's cousins) but most of them aren't coming.
I did not invite FH's friends - i.e. girlfriends of his guy friends, etc.

i am having family almost 90% of family invited to wedding.. My friends and only FH's friends SIg others if they are engaged or married thats my shower atleast

I think it's still every female invited to the wedding gets an invite to the shower. I went to a wedding once where I was the named guest of a good friend of the groom and I wasn't invited to the shower. I thought it was weird to tell you the truth. (the bride and I got along so I was mystified)

we are definitely NOT inviting every woman that is invited to the wedding and infact have never seen this done...if you look at etiquette for bridal showers its close family members, bridal party and other close friends.
we'll have about 275-300 guests at the wedding and it will be about 70 guests at the shower. Its our bp of course, then our immediate family, his aunts, very close friends of the family on both sides but not friends that we hardly see, infact many of these friends are just like family for us and even some closer than some family members. His first cousins, my first cousins, grandmothers...also other close friends, and then some of the wives/gf/fiancee's of our male friends. But these females we are close to and see alot and these women are the wives/gf's/fiancee's of our groomsmen and have been invited to their showers.

i am staying out of the planning 100% but the one thing i did was give a guestlist to my MOH along with all the addresses

oh there is no way im inviting all females that are coming to my wedding to the shower. that would be like 175 women!!! ahhh! i...or my mom, lol is inviting only close friends and family.

I jsut had to give my list to someone. I have my family and friends,and FH family. NOT on the list: my co-workers FH friends & co-workers wives/dates my friends dates
