How difficult in comparison to the Undergrad degree would you say the work is for completing a Masters. I excelled with my B.S but I a little scared. I was going for my 2nd B.S but my advisor said that my grades are more along the Graduate studies path and I would be wasting my time getting a 2nd B.S.

I am not sure! But I start my masters program on september 1st and I am worried also about the coursework. I think it might be new school jitters for me!

Re: Who has a Masters?
I found master's work easier b/c you are studying one subject. I hated having to take classes in undergrad that had nothing to do with my major. I did much better in graduate school b/c I was really interested in what I was learning.
Good luck!

Re: Who has a Masters?
I would say that it depends on your field of study and your school. I studied speech-languge pathology and the program was very rigorious! Still, I learned so much and it was very worth it. While my mother would love me to get a Doctorate, I may go for another related Masters sometime (some area of education...reading maybe).
If I were you, I would seriously consider a Masters rather than a second Bachelors, even if it is a change of field/major. I think that since you have a Bachelors and good grades (so you have good study skills, writing skills, and test taking skills) a Masters makes more sense and you can probably handle it. Also, the Masters is viewed better than a Bachelors or two. Good luck with your decision!

Re: Who has a Masters?
I too am scheduled to start classes in Septmeber. I am lucky because my school has a combination M.A/B.S program so at least for the 1st semester I can use the time to make my mind up. My original degree is in Health care but I wanted to go down the business path as a back up. So I am thinking of pursuing a M.A in Labor & policy studies instead at the suggestion of my mentor and get this ..graduate studies amission. I can complete it in 1 1/2 years if I get a special waiver to take on more course work. I have to do it now or never thought. My GI Bill runs out 2007.

Re: Who has a Masters?
Definitely go for a Masters rather than a second bachelors - it shows commitment to a single field and willingness to pursue advanced training.
I didn't find the coursework to be any harder in graduate school than in undergrad. But I did learn to take a much more active role in my learning. Make sure your professors know who you are and how good you are!

Re: Who has a Masters?
i found my master's courses to be much much easier than undergrad. maybe that's b/c i was used to the type of work required and sort of knew the drill so to speak. it will definitely depend on your school and program though. but it is easier when you only have one topic to focus on and most likely one that you're good at! good luck!

Re: Who has a Masters?
I found that the course work was the same but the tests/exams to be more intense. It wasn't the standard multiple choice exams. I had mostly projects, oral presentations and essay exams. Thankfully this was in my favor!

Re: Who has a Masters?
i just began my masters this past summer. So far it's been much better to me than undergrad. It's been more work - but i think that's mainly because i was taking 8 credits in 5 weeks - and started 2 days after i graduated undergrad.
I think most do better in grad since you're not forced to take classes that you're not obligated to take classes in subjects that you're not interested in. best of luck to you!

Re: Who has a Masters?
I think it was a bit easier- especially if its in a similar subject area as your undergrad. The hard part is if you are working full time while taking classes!

Re: Who has a Masters?
I agree with Sasha96 that it depends on the field. Maybe that's because we went through the same masters program together! My undergrad degree in speech path was very easy, so I was not expecting the masters to be very tough, but it was very rigorous!! However, I did take some grad level courses in education also, which were a joke! The ed classes were very easy and did not even compare to the speech classes. Either way, I would suggest going for the master's. I think it would look better for you than to say you have 2 bachelors. also, i don't know if this is true for all degrees, but i found that the masters classes were more in depth, while the undergrad classes tend to give you more of a broad overview.

It depends on the program. I went to LIU at Brentwood for my Master in Literacy and it was a piece of cake IMO.

Re: Who has a Masters?
FH did his MBA in Business Management at Dowling..He did the accelerated Saturday program for 1 1/2 years..He felt it was easier then Undergraduate. you basically go over everything you learned in undergrad but a little more indepth. I remember looking at his coursework & thinking it was not difficult at all...

Re: Who has a Masters?
I think it's easier - shorter too! The only hard thing for me is what I'm working on right now - my thesis. It's due in a little over 2 weeks and I'm majorly stressed out!!!!!

Re: Who has a Masters?
I was REALLY nervous before starting my master's. I didn't need to be. The only differenc is the focus on one subject and we had more papers and oral presentations. I agree, though, definitely go for the master's instead of a second bachelor's. Good luck!

Re: Who has a Masters?
I work at a college, and for the most part the second degree bachelors students want to teach, and need an undergrad. degree in the subject area. Otherwise, I wouldn't waste time on another bachelors. My undergrad. was extremely difficult and competitive, so my masters at Stony Brook seemed like a piece of cake comparatively (I had a 4.0 at the end, and did not put a lot of time or effort into it, and took 2-3 classes a semester while working full time). My 'thesis' was 30 pages long--mine for undergrad was over 100. So, it was easier. Now I am starting a doctorate at Dowling I heard was very easy (that's not why I chose the program--I can only go part-time). I think it just depends on the school and program...
ETA: I worked as an advisor and I would disagree that grades should determine or dictate the graduate or second bachelors path. It really is more important to determine your purpose. Some professions you need an undergraduate degree in that area (teaching for example). Other graduate degrees prefer specific majors for entry, or at least require a great deal of prerequisites. My advice for most students unless they want to completely change their field of study would be to go for the master's. There was less memorization than entry-level undergrad. classes--more thinking and analyzing--coming up with own ideas, etc. I thought that was easier--I am not a fan of regurgitating information...

Re: Who has a Masters?
i found the Masters to be so much easier for me, because it was more focused and I think i was more mature when i did it. I had a 2.8 undergrad GPA (way to strive Lori! ) and my Graduate GPA was about a 3.8 I think.....so my mindset was totally different. It all depends on the field and the person though!
I think Masters is more work intensive. I find that I have fewer exams and more papers/projects. My major is in Secondary Ed., sot that may be a reason for all the work. It does require time/effort but without the stress of exams I find it easier.

Re: Who has a Masters?
I agree with palebride. I found it much easier. A lot of work but I guess I was more focused. I KNOW I didn't even have a 3.0 in undergrad and I will graduate (in Dec) with a 3.98
