Bush has been in office, so of course its going to be easy for Kerry to critcize all the decisions he made in the last 4 years.
Im not really a fan of Kerry, he hasnt really WOWED me to say that he is going to be a great President. But, in my opinion you win elections by proving that you are the better candidate and discussing the issues at hand. You dont have a demonstration with comedians like Whoopi Goldberg and celebrities making fun of Bush.
That's exactly why it's driving me so crazy to see that Bush and his team have had very little to offer campaign-wise except for negativity. fear-mongering, and criticisms of Democrats.
This is how you win elections.

Re: Who is Everyone voting for?
I honestly don't know who I'm voting for. I don't like Bush's cabinet so it's hard for me to vote for him. I didn't like his reaction to gay marriages. I am starting to really question why we went into Iraq and why we are still in Iraq.
Bush was great after 9/11. I don't think anyone can deny that. Yes he was in hiding for a couple of hours that day, but he had to be. They had threats against him. But right after he was everywhere. And I will never forget him standing on the remains of the WTC talking to the firefighters. But since then he hasn't been a good president and his intentions are very questionable. And his cabinet is even more suspicious.
But Kerry doesn't impress me. I think he's saying all the right things right now. He's pointing out all the things that Bush has done wrong and saying he will do it differently. But different does mean it's going to be better and that's what scares me. I'm not sure Kerry is much better than Bush. He might even be worse in some areas.
It is like choosing the lesser of the 2 evils. That's why I think I'm going Nader. I know Nader wont win. But I don't know if I can give my vote to Kerry or Bush. And I'm tired of only having 2 real choices every November.

If you make over 200k a year, I think your tax break SHOULD be taken away.. sorry dude... I think it's more important to use that money to maintain social security, medicare, and federal funding of schools.
Although if you live in NYC you really arent' saving so much money- because due to decrease in fed'l aid, NYC tax has increased.
Although I will prob vote for Kerry and agree with most everything he says, I just don't think it is right to increase taxes of people making 200k a year. Money is not just handed to those people and a lot of them are not spoiled but work extremely hard for what they have. A lot of times families suffer so that they could make that money. For many people who make over 200k, a lot of them are burying themselves working in offices, traveling to boost the economy, never seeing their families. It is just not right that they should be taxed more. In NYC, you KNOW that money does not go so far. Hell you can barely get a decent house on a combined salary of 100k.
edited to say that I am so sick of politics in general. Every 4 -8 years we get a new president who undoes what the old president did. We never get anywhere. I am so sick of campaigns like the 'New America' or 'Stronger world'. Puhlease!!!

i personally can't stand to hear Bush speak, becuase his speech pattern irritates me to no end.....so i probably won't listen to his speech.
i'm not crazy about Bsuh, and I happen to agree with a lot of the things Kerry stands for, so I'm most likey going with Kerry.
I didn't vote for Bush the first time around, so it wouldn't make sense for me to do it now
I agree Lori! and those beady little eyes!

I am interesting in seeing what Bush is going to say in his speech. I don't think it will change my mind, but I'm curious what he will say.
nope, DEFINITELY won't change my mind. I already know where he stands, and its not what i'm for. Doesn't mean i think Kerry will save the world, but like you said- 'lesser of two evils' in my mind.
I'm with you, Tracy. I've heard quite enough from G.W. Bush already. I don't want to hear more of the same.
DITTO!

I'm not saying that the people who make over 200k a year didn't work for it- but why should they get the majority of tax cuts.. and not the people making welfare wages living under the poverty line.. economically speaking, if you put more $$$ in the hands of lower to middle income people- they put more of that money back into the economy and make it stronger- those who are making the big bucks are too few and far between and don't put the $ back in to boost the economy. The difference is 75% of the people spending money or 25% of the people spending money.

The Church vs. State thing is a stance that every Republican has. Its not just Bush. He isn't doing anything different in the Church standpoint that Reagan did.

I will not vote for a man that lies to a country to start a war. Yes, Kerry voted to go into the war. He does not deny that and he now says it was a mistake. Bush lied, sorry was mistaken, and he bought it just like alot of Americans.
As far as what I would do if I were President..... I do know one thing for sure I would not favor the rich over the poor and I sure as hell would not send our men into battle to settle an old score for my pappy.
I also believe that as Americans we have the right to disagree and voice our opinions. People fought and died for our right to speak freely. If that is considered Bush bashing then let me be guilty of it.

I really don't think he went into war to settle the score for his dad. He had his own reasons that he felt were enough to enter into war. We can disagree with him, but to say he did it just for his dad is, IMO, a weak arguement.
And I have to say that while I do feel that the troops should come home now, I am glad we got that SOB and I feel that the world is a much safer place without him as a leader.

also, I don't understand when it became a crime to change your mind when presented with additional information. If you polled Americans when Bush said he was going into Iraq, most Americans would respond favorable.. however, not it's not the case- because a lot of Americans feel taken advantage of and lied too- it's not Bush bashing- it's stating fact- he said we are going to war because Saddam had weapons of mass destruction and he did not- and there was no conclusive evidence at the time that he did have WMD... many senators voted to go into Iraq and are now wishing they knew the whole truth.
I'm gathering it was hard to vote on that issue when Bush was lying at the time or misrepresenting his information.
Bush is very shady- I've done a lot of research- and if people want to blindly wave the flag and follow him, without knowing 1/2 about his past and what he's done in his professional life (like find out how he got the $ to buy the Rangers) then I don't think most people would want to re-elect him. He's as bad as the Enron executives..

I think there's a distinct difference between voicing an opposing opinion and bashing. While you personally may not have been bashing, there is a ton of it going on, both on this site and in general.
I won't point to specific things said on this site because it's not worth my time but the Whoopi Goldberg thing at the Kerry fundraiser was beyond distasteful and I'm quite surprised that he allowed it to happen and did not apologize for it later. Regardless of anyone's specific thoughts on his politics, et al, he is still the President of our country and the leader of the free world. That in itself should be enough to command a decent level of respect that I, and apparently some others, feel he is not receiving. I think that was what smm2675 was trying to say.

Re: Who is Everyone voting for?
Does everyone else not see that Bush is leading this country into a religious state? It is appaling how many freedoms we had just 5 years ago that are now gone or trying to be taken away. Under this presidencey you don't have the right to choose anything, including what you want to listen to on the radio. I am not a big fan of Howard Stern but for example what the govt is doing to his freedom of speech is appaling! Bush's stances on such issues as abortion, gay rights, freedom of speech and tax breaks for the wealthy are enough to get me to the polls in November. Kerry may not be the best candidate ever but anything is better then what is in the White House now.
