A friend of mine just got engaged and is struggling with talking to FIL's about what they are contributing.... if anything...
I remember that being the hardest part after getting engaged, everyone fighting over money...
I am very lucky my parents are paying for the bulk of the reception and my dress, and FIL's picking up whatever is left of the recp. and maybe a vendor... Fh and I are paying for the rest...

We are paying e/t ourselves except my parents are paying for my dress. My parents have offered to help but I personally didn't feel right accepting (I mean they paid for my BA, MA, and they let me move back home to save money). FI's dad hasn't said anything and we believe it's poor taste to ask his dad if he'd like to contribute. So, we'll find a way to do it (doesn't mean I won't have nightmares trying to do it, though) Oh, well.

We are paying for everything ourselves. My dad has 4 daughters and my older sister is also getting married next year. My father has offered to pay for the church but I don't know if I will let him. Other than that, no one else has even offered to pay for anything or throw us an engagment pary. So we will do it! I almost feel this is better- no one can get angry and throw it in our faces!
