Who knows about this...............

Original post by jjk1007

I have a question about the japanese hair straightening....

Is it bad for your hair?? Cause my hair is already pretty thin so I would hate to do more damage to it. I've always thought about getting this done because my hair has a wave to it and tends to get very frizzy, which means, if im wearing it down, I MUST straighten it with my hair iron. Is this something I should look into doing?? I know that its super expensive so I would love to hear from someone thats had it done, or knows someone whos had it done, and what theyre experience was....TIA!

(It might be nice not to have to worry about my hair on the honeymoon...)

If you have thin hair I wouldn't do it, it tends to make your hair look even thinner

i agree and your hair looks great in your epics
i dont think its for people that have a 'wave'
its for people that have super curly hair

umm i didnt take any specific before and afters, ive been doing it for about 4 years now, all i can say is my hair is really curly, like noxema girl curly. and now its straight, if you look in my album for my engagement party i even used a curling iron, lol, ironic isnt it, ha. yeah so my hair is straight, but not like too straight. at first it is very flat but after about 2 or 3 weeks it does get fuller once ur hair grows a bit. like i said, i love it, but the only thing id worry about is your hair being thin in the first place and its only a little wave idk if its worth doing. i know some girls go into queens and stuff to do it and they pay only 300, i pay about 700. i just trust my girl so much so its not worth it for me to go somewhere else thats cheaper if my hair is gonna fall out. also, if you decide to do it, DONT go while you have your period, you hair will not take as well. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks, you were really helpful. I appreciate all the info!

No problem! Let me know if you have any more questions. if you want to do it maybe they have something out that is less harsh than japanese, like maybe a regular straigtening. id speak to your stylist.

I have pretty curly/wavy hair naturally and i've always wanted to do it..but didn't for two reasons
1. I highlight my hair...so i was always afraid of it getting damaged further and dry
2. I like wearing my hair both ways for a change...as sometimes if i have it one way for two long i get bored..

I used to do it all the time when I lived in NY. There is a place on Roosevelt Ave inWoodside that is much cheaper than others. Iloved getting it done but it does make your hair 'feel' thinner. I stopped doing it b/c I got alopecia from the stress of teaching special ed I try not to do much to my hair no indays. Thank god it grew back after I got rid of that one class of kids. Anyway I would talk to you stylist about your specific situation. But in my opinion its the best thing ever. Just jump out of the shower, no product needed and your hair will dry sticki straight

I think you're taking about hair village? It's very popular when it comes to japanese straightening

Re: Who knows about this...............

Well, I actually live in Milwaukee so unfortunately I'd have to find a place here that does it. I dont think my stylist does it but im sure she can reffer me to someone who is trustworthy.
I cant wait to see her again so I can ask her about this....

It really dries straight right out of the shower? No frizz at all?? What is that like??? lol
