Who knows how to buy a laptop?

I'm looking to get my husband a laptop/notebook for x-mas since we are always arguing over the computer!!! It would be used primarily for internet, photos, some spreadsheets for banking and budgeting type things. OH and I want wireless capabilities since we are already have the wireless system going for the TIVO.

Here is what I'm looking at - is this any good? can anyone tell me what I should be looking for? or know of better models? THANKS!!!

I can't get the link to post...but its the Dell Inspiron 5160

If you are looking for strictly what you mentioned above, a cheaper laptop should suffice. Dell has plenty under a grand that should meet your needs.

I have a Compaq I picked up on Black Friday a couple years back I use as my primary computer for only $600. It works like a charm. I code all of my websites from it and use it for browsing and ftp'ing and occaisionally do graphic art on it. It has the entire MS Office Suite as well as the Adobe Suite loaded on it and it doesn't flinch.

Basically, look for memory (the higher the better...for your needs 512 should be fine). Check for weight and what type of mouse you like. (most have touchpads, but there are some nubby hold-outs).

Most laptops built now should be fine since they are all capable of what you listed above with no problems...in your case it would be more of a preference and/or price. (Dell should be fine)

Good luck.
