Who lives outside of NY?

What city and State? Do you like it? Do you miss NY or absolutely love it there? Would you ever move back to NY?

I LOVE IT...how can you not...best weather in the country!!!

I miss NY on occasion...walking in the streets, something always being opened...some of the cultural aspects (although SD has some great museums)...but it is SO dirty in NYC...and that always bothered me...it is so clean here!!

I don't think that we'll come back to NY...its too cold in the winter...(I really have a problem with that) DH's is in Arizona...so we are close to them...and we have a beach house in Mexico...which was so hard to visit when we were in NY...now its so close...

Me, I live about 30 minutes south of Boston. And let me tell you, I HATE IT HERE! What I really miss about Long Island is that there is so much to do and things going on at all times. For instance, if I wanted to redo my bathroom at 3am on LI, I could go to the 24hr. Home Depot.(Ok, bad example!) But things close sooooooooooooooo early here, like Blockbuster at 10...11 on the weekends. Woo hoo! The food is horrible, the rent is like 400 a month more expensive than anywhere I know of on LI, and everything is so spread out you have to travel forever just to go food shopping. I think that a lot of it has to do with the fact that my family lives on LI, and it is just FH and I here, but I mean, come on, how can you have rush hour commuter trains that only run once every hour and forty-minutes. If you miss your train, you can kiss the first half of your day good bye!
Whew, sorry. I am luckily moving back to LI at the end of the month. I would not move away again.
And a little side story. I went to look at dresses yesterday with one of my BMs, and three EMPTY dress shops sent me away without even letting me LOOK at dresses because they didn't think that you should start trying on dresses or looking until 6 months before the wedding. Um, HELLO! ARGH.

i'm in love with new york .. i can't wait to live (near) there in a month. it's just so different from any other place. maybe i'll get sick of it like most people i know, but for now i can't wait!

yabbobay. how do you like Arizona? Does your DH family like Arizona?

My husband wants to move outside of NY, he says anywhere I want far from NY but I just can't. I tell him ok NJ, CT, Westchester but he says no its still as expensive and its still like being in NY. He tells me California, Arizona, Florida. I think if I would have to choose later in the future it would be California because there is life there and I want to be a Pastry Chef, I think I would do good their also other than NY.

we are in CA...but 4 hours from his mom in AZ...

FL was out for us...too humid in summer
AZ was out...110 degrees!!! no way!!
but it is beautiful in AZ...I love to visit...and it is VERY inexpensive to live there (MIL can live on $300/month - but thats 1 hour outside Phoenix in the desert!)

Phoenix is a growing city and they are not having unemployment issues there...you may want to look into it...In Scottsdale (a wealthier part of Phoenix) a 3/4 br beautiful big house...goes for $300K...

My DH and I live in North Carolina (Raleigh area). We love it! I would never move to NY again. We miss some of the food and of course our family and friends. But there is just no way we could ever afford to live on LI. We've been down here for 4 years this July. I think everyone should move out of state at least once in their life. You have to see how much more beautiful it is. My DH and I grew up on LI, so when we moved down here it was so different. Everything is so clean and beautiful!

Yabbobay, that is exactly where hubby wants to move Scottsdale, Arizona. Everytime we talk about moving he always is trying to talk me into moving down there.

We are going on vacation to California in August so I guess we will try to do some research while we are down there.

If we were to move to AZ...it would be to Scottsdale...

I will tell you though...one part that is not cheap...electricity...my BIL pays $300/month (normal in NYC summers, but AZ is supposed to be so cheap)...this is b/c of the constant A/C...

Kathy - one thing in favor of Scottsdale, AZ is that it's a big resort area with lots of restaurants, hotels, resort complexes etc. and eating out is a way of life for some - LOTS of restaurants, always seem to be crowded. So - it offers a lot of opportunity for a pastry chef.

Rochester, NY here...I might as well be outside of NY!!! It's soooo far away from Long Island...at least to drive (7 hours drive, 50 minute plane ride).
But like eveything in life, it has it's pros and cons. Weather in the winter is brutal, but, look at LI this year, brutal as well!
I think the one thing I miss the most is the ocean. Lake Ontario just does not compare...

We live in Pensacola, Florida now, and are moving to Corpus Cristi, Tx come August.

I live in Cranston, Rhode ISland, about 20 minutes South of Providence. Its inexpensive to live here in comparison to Where I grew up in Long ISland (Sag HArbor) owever, I miss Long Island like nobodys business!! I rather be at home and in LOng Island oceans as opposed to RI oceans, which are almost an hour from my house, and they call THIS the ocean state??!?!? I'll never understand...LI beaches have this state totally beat! But, I would not move any further than RI, since its only 1 hour fdrom the NEw London Ferry...so can get HOME quicker!!!!!

I live in Baltimore, MD. I miss my family and friends on LI, but it is a four hour drive or a forty minute plain ride, so its not difficult to just head to LI for the weekend whenever I want.

I wouldn't go back to NY. The taxes and the real estate prices are so much lower down here. When I hear what houses are selling for on LI, I cringe The traffic is better down here and downtown Baltimore is, to me, a better city than NYC because it is cleaner and less crowded.

We love Baltimore.

I live in Jersey City- doesn't count- work in NYC.. best of both worlds.

We will probably wind up living in Livingston or something.

Sassy- I work in Livinston, NJ but live in Allendale in Bergen - will settle down in NJ since that's where my FI is from. Thank god I still have my parents, sister and friends on LI since I get there at least 2-3 times a month!

NYC is so dirty I agree, but where else can you walk out at 4am and get an ice cream sundae or something LOL!

I loooovvee Arizona as well. I stayed in Scottsdale for a week and would love to move there!

We're in San Francisco, but heading back (probably to NY) soon. I love it out here, but we want to be closer to our families and I miss going in the ocean in the summer (the water is so COLD here!)
