So FH and I just bought a house together, we've been living together for most of our relationship (moved in together 3 months after we met and have been together 2 years). Lately I've been wondering if the majority of engaged couples live together or not, and if so, what has your experience been like? Do you rent or own? who is in charge of the finances, etc. Do you feel like you are missing out in a sense by living with your FH before being married, or are you happy you made the decision to live together first?

I don't know what we are.....I live with my mom ( I've never lived away from home) And after 2 years of dating FH just started staying over night and never left that was a year and a half ago LOL So he technically has some of his things at his parents' but all of his clothes, etc are here and he gets mail here too.
We are going to move around the time of the wedding to either a co-op or condo b/c neither one of us want a house.

My parents are extremly old school and I hate to displease them. They want me to wait to move in with him until after we marry. FH owns his own house , so I will be moving in after the wedding. We spend every night together...weekends too. He is only 15min away from my parents. I am looking forward to spending every day with him and going through all the annoying things I dont know about him yet lol

We have lived together for over 3 years and love every minute of it. I handle the money these days cause I'm like a frugal old lady and won't dip into savings for ANYTHING!!!! LOL I just made our December RH payment so we didn't use it for christmas!!!

I moved in with FH two years ago, we own a condo. He takes care of the bills, as I have no head for that stuff and he works in finance, so thats his things. I love living with him!

FH and I have lived together for about 5 years. I moved in with him and then we just started renting an apartment earlier this year. I definitely love the fact that we live together. It actually already feels like we're married and I love it. We have a 4yr old son. I handle the finances (i'm just better at it ) I don't have any regrets. I'll tell you one thing, if we didn't live together BEFORE we got married, then i may have had one of the shortest marriages in history. The things i learned about FH after i moved in with him was enough to have me running for the hills If we would have waited it might have scared the hell out of me .But i was able to 'fix' him and he's great now. Can't live without him. He's hanging out right now and i miss him

i personally like having this snapshot of our lives together before we take the plunge. we didn't merge our finances right away, but once we started planning a wedding, we opened a joint checking accout. that was the first step, and it's happening slowly.
we bickered more than we wanted to at first, but that subsided after the adjustment period was over, and i'm totally happy we made the decision. added bonus: it would have been a waste of money to pay rent in two places for years while we had alternating sleepovers.

We live together and I love it. There was quite an adjustment period when we moved in and I'm glad that I didn't have to make that transition as a newlywed...lots you learn about the other person when you move in together! We both handle finances for different things.

We've been together almost 4 years. We moved in together after we bought a house one year ago. I was very nervous about this because I had never lived with anyone before. I had lived alone since I was 17y/o. I must say It was the best decision! I love coming home to him. Waking up next to him. He gets up earlier than I do so he tucks me in every morning before he goes to work...Its the Best! I handle ALL the finances. It was a mutual agreement. He just hands over the check and I make all the payments.

We moved in together two years into our realtionship (before we were engaed). We rent. I guess I handle most of the finances. I am happy that we moved in together before being married. I can't wait until we have a house!

I still live in mom and dads house, as you already know. Fh lives in his own house and we are looking to buy in January..........
PS- I think I will be at Dan's for Thanksgiving...no luck finding your 80's prom pic..i will look more later

I am really glad that we live together. We used to spend weekends together at his place, so we had an idea of what it was like to live together, but it's not the same. Now we know how to split up chores and bills, and it makes it easier for us to plan things with our friends (knowing we don't have to sacrifice time together), and a million other things.
I definitely think it's a good idea just to make sure you know what the person is like in the morning, what their cleaning habits are, etc. this way you make sure you know you're making the right decision to be with the person for the rest of your life. I think I would feel like I was missing out on something if I DIDN'T get to live with FH before hand.

we dont live together and we wont till the wedding. We live 30 min away so we olny see eachother on weekends. Whic his nice in a way b/c it equals less fights lol

We don't live together. I live at home and up until two weeks ago FH had an apartment. We never really discussed how we felt about it, although I think we both really wanted to be old fashioned and traditional about it anyhow, but we knew that it would upset both our parents if we lived together first and there was no reason to do that.
Now we bought a house together, but were working on it and fh is in the guest room with a double bed, because the master is the last room were doing since it needs the most work and we can't afford the King Furniture yet anyhow. So I am still at home. We thought about moving in together now that we both own the house, but we are so close to our wedding that at this point it would be silly to break the tradition we wanted to keep with only a few months to go.
I am in the same boat. I like the old fashion sense of waiting until we are married. I know it will be an adjustment but I am excited!

We bought a house together in January. I think it was the best thing we ever did. I moved from my mothers house to my house so the first week or two were a weird adjustment phase for me. I was very happy to be living with FH but I was a little emotional b/c I missed my family and I didn't like being home alone (FH goes to school at night) I got used to it really quick though and everything was great.
At first we shared the responsibilities of paying the bills but it doesn't really work b/c we didn't know who was paying what and what was left to pay. Since FH never balanced a checkbook a day in his life, I handle all the finances. We have a joint account now so whatever we make goes to whatever bills we need to pay, we dont split up who pays what.
I don't feel like I am missing out. I pesonally feel it was better to do it this way b/c I wouldn't have wanted to go through the emotional phase once we are married and I certainly wouldn't have wanted to begin house hunting after the wedding b/c it was a very stressful experience for us. I am looking forward to coming home from our honeymoon to a settled home so we can just enjoy being newlyweds and not be distracted by anything else.

i'm VERY happy we decided to live together first. i think its important to live with someone first. we rent an apartment and we do our fiances together.... i LOVE living together. its amazing the way our relationship has developed...

Uhm. FH and I went on about 5 dates and he never went back to his place. LOL Sounds funny but it's true. After about 2 months of him stopping by his apartment to pick stuff up and then realizing that everything was at my place, we decided that he should just stay. That was 4 years ago.. We are renting a house now and are looking to buy a house in Florida shortly after the wedding.
