Who needs Etiquette? What are you doing that's 'against' the rules?

Original post by marc_rai

So I know there's a lot of dos and don'ts that we're supposed to follow, but is anyone saying. DAMN the rules, I'm doing this my way!
Okay, I'll go first:

Etiquette says: Send each adult over 18 a separate invitation.

Rai says: Damn that rule! If you're over 18 and live at home you're not getting a separate invite.

Oh another thing...boK toss YES...GARTER THING NO! The garter thing for some reason always made me so uncomfortable at weddings....I don't like seeing a guy put his hand up his wifes dress and then make two poor unsuspecting people do the same thing...I don't like it..that just my opinion

We took pictures before the ceremony so we could enjoy CH.
I printed labels on the computer for the outer envelope and my sister did the inner envelopes by hand (they didn't look that great, LOL!)
We had a rehearsal brunch the weekend before the wedding instead of a dinner the night before.
Didn't have a white cake.
Didn't have a white dress (well it was ivory)
I wore flats all day (didn't want to be taller than DH)

Actually, you're following more etiqueete than you ythink, because the rule actually is that you only invite people ine rious relationships, and you are supposed to NAME the guest or escort. Also, you're supposed to send that person a separate invite to hisor her home, that's one thing I'm not doing..I'm sure people can tell their own boyfriends, lol.

Mine is going to break a lot of rules on both sides b/c it's interfaith. We're going to try to sort of meld both ceremonies..we're going to have a huppah, but we're not going to have our parents stand under it, and we're using the christian processional/recessional. FH is going to wait at the altar for me, instead of proceeding in, probably.

My dog is my ring-bearer.

I love that you're doing that!

I'll add:
Rehearsal is Friday, Rehearsal dinner is Saturday night (wedding on Sunday).

Dress is champagne, not white or even ivory. I feel so impure

Etiquette?

Ha.

FH and I are flying to Key West to tie the knot. If they love us, they'll be there. If they're not there, who needs 'em?!?

I dont think I am going to give my band members dinner. They will eat at the cocktail hour.

Hey this thread is so much fun...I didnt even realize that I was doing untraditional things with my wedding...

I am having more groomsman than bridesmaids...

Having a bridesman-my friend Mike

Ceremony ends at 3:45/4:00 and then Cocktail Hour will be at 7pm...so some time in between and we have lots of out of towners, but that's the way it is!!!!

Having a bilingual mass

Dont want to have favors, but FH thinks we should...

Hmmm...cant wait to think of more

The invite reads 'Mr and Ms. Paul and Patricia XXXXXXX' am not going with what the etiquette books say, 'Mr and Mrs. Paul XXXXX'

Yes, me too
Just because a women gets married doesn't mean she should lose her first name

Taking obey out of our vows. So medieval and demeaning IMO

I just thought of something else. I'm going to address my invitationsby typing them on on my computer. I'm not paying for calligraphy or hand writing them. Like they are 'supposed' to be done. I don't have time for that! They just get thrown away anyway.

That felt good too.

Us too. Like we can afford to pay someone to write some pretty script on an envelope My computer does a great job...

We're not inviting singles with guests unless they're in a serious relationship.

No kids except the 2 in the BP.

And the one that got everyone p*ssed: NO RECIEVING LINE!!!! its a waste of precious time IMO.

Ooo i just posted how i follow etiquette when it comes to invitations but yeah i didn't do that adult over 18 gets a separate invitations hahahaha.

Yeah i had a list of guests from FH's family and there were quite a few on there where theyhad like 3-4 different invitations i was supposed to send to the same household...I thought it was ridiculous and just sent them all one. I am not going to send the parents and every kid in the household a separate invitations.

I thought it was ok to print addresses on the envelope...I've heard that you shouldn't use labels but not that...But i do feel better after reading your post...i had a huge dilemma and couldn't find the metallic gold ink cartridge for invitations to match the return address...So i bought a gold calligraphy pen and handwrote them all...I thought people were gonna think ugh she wrote it herself instead of having them done, but i had no choice lol...didnt have time to search for the damn ink cartridge...thanks for making me feel better

Etiquette says: invite all children or none.

FH and I say: screw that, we're only inviting the children that we WANT at the wedding

I feel better now

Same for us!

Also, there is a significant gap between the church and the cocktail hour and quite frankly, I don't care! We need the time to take pictures so that we can enjoy the wedding that we are paying a lot of money for!

I love this thread...That is a stupid rule because many couples have no choice but to have a big gap...We need time for pics but aside from that, our church has mass at 5 on saturdays so the latest we could do is 3:30 and CH starts at 7:30, thats not our fault, nothing we can do

exactly what i was going to say

and i read that you are not supposed to put 'and guest' on invitations, you are supposed to find out the guest's name - forget it, i don't have time for that!

yeah but you can't always do that so that rule is stupid...For my e-party i did e-mail all our friends and asked for their bf/gf's full names so i can put their names on the invite too...but there are some guests that are single and i had no choice but to put and guest, bc if they bring someone they don't even know yet who they are bringing.

boy am i glad i am not the only one who breaks the rules!

1) Only 1 invite per house
2) No 'and guest' unless in serious relationship
3) I'm printing address envelopes on the computer (but in fancy font)

I love this thread

1. We are not having a FG or a RB which I have been told is NOT ok
2. No receiving line
3. We are going to our CH-thats why no receiving line
4. 2.5 hour gap between our ceremony and Reception....we dont want to see e/o before (get over it)

Thats all I can think of at this moment

well its too late for me bc i handwrote my invites last night for e-party but what are you using to print addresses on the envelopes, just black ink? Im just wondering bc am i the only one who had trouble finding the ink cartridge i needed to do this...i also ordered invitations online and they return address on them was in gold so i wanted it to be gold too the outgoing addresses and didnt want to do black
