Who should sit at Dais ?

Original post by mls282

I am pretty torn on who should sit at Dais. I have seen just bride and groom seated seperately (most often). I have also seen entire bridal party with bride and groom (and they had their guests/dates seated elsewhere). I have also seen the bride and groom and the honor attendants with their guests.

I can't decide what is best. What do you think?

Re: Who should sit at Dais ?

The first and ONLY time I saw the entire BP w/o dates at the Dais was in Massachusetts a few years back. I thought it was so strange - guess us Long Islanders do things our own way! ( I was very New-York-centric then and I thought... UGH! These Massachusetts people are SOOOOO behind the times! HA!) IMOH I think it's awkward for BP to sit at Dais w/o dates. The most common set up (I think) is bride and groom at Dais, BP with dates at two tables near the Dais.

We had a sweetheart table - so just the bride and groom. It was best this way as we had time to talk. Don't worry you will have enough time to socialize. At my wedding, we barely even sat down.

I am seating my BP with FH and I at the dais... We thought about sitting alone, that was our original plan... My mom told me that my BP may be a little offended if we seat them with the crowd...

When you're at a wedding, how often are you in your seat? No much (well my family anyway), so I figured my BP could go be with their dates almost the whole reception except for eating...

I think its nice to honor your BP and seat them at the dais... (IMO) Sticking them in with regular guests, could be offending.

Nothing could be further from the truth. It's NOT offensive in the least bit. As another poster said, the idea of the entire BP sitting up there with you without their dates is kind of antiquated, that's why your mom thinks it should be that way, tell her that people don't really do that anymore. They either sit at BP tables with just them and their dates, or amongst the other guests with their dates at whatever table you would sit them normally if they weren't your BP. Don't you want them and their dates to have fun at your wedding?

Do you sit a lot, no? But you do sit, when you eat, during speeches, if you don't dance, etc. Why place them without their dates? No offense, but people WANT to sit with their dates, that's why they bring them. Having them sit up at the dais with you is not honoring them, it's isolating them from their gfs, bfs, husbands, wives, that's not fair to them.

Especially after all the things your BP is doing/has done for you to help make this day special, the least you could do for them is allow them to sit at tables with their dates.

And not for nothing, enjoy the few minutes at your table alone with your FH cause it's about the only minutes you'll get before people pull you in every direction.

I think it wouldn't be right to split up your bridal party from their dates. I think I would be really unhappy at a wedding sitting at a table without my FH. I'd stick with just bride and groom at the dais.

it sometimes depends on the RH. At mine, and others I've been to, they just have a small dias that only the bride & groom.

We are doing just US. I dont want the BP being seperated from their dates.

I didn't vote, because I think it's personal preference. DH and I considered doing a sweetheart table, but in the end did a head table with the attendants and their dates. Most of the attendants were single, so it ended up being only 2 extra people. The total table size was 14: DH, me, 10 attendants, best man's wife and daughter.
